Hubby doesn't want the name I do

As soon as I found out I was having a girl I thought of a name and loved it. Told husband and he said think of something else. Now I've lost all interest. My other daughters keep saying names and I hate them and hubby's like yeah there nice. I've just got my heart set on the name.

If you say the name we can suggest others you might not have even thought of

Creatureofthenight · 02/08/2019 12:44

Sorry, I know it’s hard if you really like a name, but it needs to be something you both like. By all means try and talk him round, but if he really doesn’t want to go with it then you’ll have to think of something else. If you don’t like the other suggestions so far, fine, think of some others.

Rivkka · 02/08/2019 14:01

It's Angelina isn't it?

ilovemykids5 · 02/08/2019 14:09

It's not Angelina or mollie-Mae 😂.

She is the only person I know with the name which doesn't help.

Miley?

PurpleDaisies · 02/08/2019 14:13

What’s the name? People could suggest alternatives that are in the same vein.

ilovemykids5 · 02/08/2019 14:16

The names Marnie.

Imagine if you hated the name and he kept insisting on it.. you wouldn't accept it. It needs to be a name you both like.

Rivkka · 02/08/2019 14:40

I know a few Marnies.

I like it but I can see why the Geordie shore connection would put him off.

Rivkka · 02/08/2019 14:40

What about Martha or Marsha?

Shadow1234 · 02/08/2019 15:27

Agree with everyone else - both parties have to love the name you choose. (although I do really like the name Marnie). You have to move on and find something else.

I’ve never heard of anyone in Geordie Shore. But Marnie fails my Hollyoaks test - ie, if a name is in Hollyoaks it can’t be considered, and there is one. There are worse names than Marnie, but if your DH doesn’t like it, pick something else.

bigshiplittleboat · 03/08/2019 01:19

Can you find one that's quite similar? For example, my DH lives Rowan for a girl, and I don't at all. However, we are both running with Seren at the moment, which sounds similar and we both like.

Derbee · 03/08/2019 01:48

Marnie is an awful name. Marnie from Geordie Shore is an awful person. Your husband has a right to veto any names, as do you. It’s unfair for either parent to be forced into a name they don’t like

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/08/2019 03:46

Could you see if he'd compromise with Hermione?!

OwlBeThere · 03/08/2019 04:18

@bigshiplittleboat...I hate to spoil it for you but Seren is nothing like Rowan when pronounced correctly. The final syllable is not ‘un’ like I Row-un, it’s ‘en’ ...Seh-Ren

bigshiplittleboat · 03/08/2019 07:36

@OwlBeThere we know, it's the r plus n sound it turns out he likes, not so much the vowel in the middle. But thanks for trying to spoil it

Chocolatedaim · 03/08/2019 07:46

Yeah I would be put off if there were associations with Georgie shore

It’s taken me and DH 39weeks to agree on a boys name but we have and I’m so relieved. Our tastes are the same in every way, except boys names, so it was hard, but I had severe name regret after DD (mixed in with a horrible bout of PND) so I was determined for it to not happen this time. Don’t push him to agree with you, it isn’t fair. I can’t tell you how awful the feeling is to hate the name of your child. Yes you get over it but in my case it took 3yrs.
Write lists and compare. But don’t do it obsessively, it may take time and you don’t want to drive yourselves mad.
Your baby won’t be nameless!

morningcuppatea · 03/08/2019 08:31

I recently met someone with a little girl named Marcie.

I do think you need to compromise though if your DH really hates the name you want.

Newyearsameoldshit · 03/08/2019 09:26

It's frustrating when a name you love gets vetoed, I got in a right strop when my husband crossed all my favourite names off my list!

There are websites where you separately go through a big list of names, tick ones you like, then it tells you which ones you both agreed on - could help?

ilovemykids5 · 03/08/2019 10:06

He won't make a list though. He expects me to pick names and he will say weather he likes them.

What about Marina (for both OP and bigshiplittleboat. OP could use Marnie as a surreptitious nickname ;) but it's a lovely name in its own right.

Dogsaresomucheasier · 03/08/2019 13:34

I’ve taught a lovely Dulcie (and a Marnie fwiw!)
What is it about the name you like?

ilovemykids5 · 03/08/2019 13:42

@Dogsaresomucheasier
Maybe it's because I haven't heard many people with it. I just like the sound of it as well.

What about Sadie?
