My 2018 baby is now 1 and a half and I'd love to know where her name comes.
So top predictions.

Boys... Harry/ Enzo/ Theo.

The stats come out at 9am tomorrow morning. Anyone else excited?

Have you seen this one? It's fun to faff with. Not sure when the data is added to it though. It might explain the low numbers of some names I expected to be higher, I didn't know UK was that slow at releasing the data.

C0untDucku1a · 28/08/2019 22:06

Oooo exciting

AuntieStella · 28/08/2019 22:09

Aubrey is too much of a boy's name in Britain.

Isabel/la peaked 2005-10 and has been dropping steadily since (though of course there might still be local clumps)

I think the Evie/Ava names will feature, as will the perennial favourites of Sophie, Ellie names, plus Emmy names

Less tuned in to boys at the moment, but think surname-y ones may well be risers (Jackson, Grayson etc)

Poetryinaction · 28/08/2019 22:32

Aaahh really? That is exciting! Why so early?

My babies have Royal names! Let's see how they go.

Ooo excited to see where DD comes in the rankings (if she’s still inside the top 100 as she was just squeaking in the year before she was born)

Cattenberg · 28/08/2019 23:14

I enjoy looking at this every year and I can’t wait this time, as I have a 2018 baby.

I have seen the Scottish statistics for 2018 and was surprised to see that DD’s name has slipped down the rankings. Not that it matters, really.

I’ve met a lot of babies with vowelly names in the last two years or so, especially names beginning with A. Amelia, Amy, Ava, Avery, Archie, Arlo, Austin, Albie, Edward, Elizabeth, Ella, Eve, Eva, Elden, Isaac, Imogen, Isabella, Otto, Oscar, Orla etc.

Cattenberg · 28/08/2019 23:25

Although, the latest babies I kind of know (well, I know their mums), were born earlier this month. A boy and a girl, and both have first names that are better known as surnames. So, that trend might still be growing.

One last prediction before 9am - Lyra was at #183 in 2017. I think it will rise sharply to get very close to the top 100, possibly even breaking into the top 100 the way that Luna did in 2016.

Poetryinaction · 29/08/2019 08:11

Good work. Any last minute predictions or guesses at numbers?
I guess my baby girl name will have risen to 62.
I guess within top 5 girls Amelia, Isobel (in some form) and Isla. I guess Luna in top 20.
I guess within top 5 boys Jack, Harry and Theo. I guess some form of Finley in top 20.

And looking back over the thread, Freya and Florence in top 10, Ezra and Logan top 20.

It's 9 and it's not out yet 😭

Poetryinaction · 29/08/2019 09:22

He he not yet!

OP posts:
Colourfulest · 29/08/2019 09:28

I'm desparate to see how many babies were given my daughters name!

Colourfulest · 29/08/2019 09:38

Woohoo it's out! Can anyone explain how to search names though?!

Poetryinaction · 29/08/2019 09:52

Is it? Can you post a link please?

@milkstick the person who runs dark greener is usually pretty quick at updating the site once the new stats are released.

ElizabethG81 · 29/08/2019 09:56

www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/babynamesenglandandwales/2018

They've added an interesting feature this year that gives a breakdown of name popularity in relation to the mother's age.

Poetryinaction · 29/08/2019 10:01

I still can't see the lists. Doesn't it still say due for release in September?

Click on "view all data used in this statistical bulletin" - a green link to the right of the Main Points sections - that will give you all the stats.

Cbeebiesrehab · 29/08/2019 10:08

The maternal age statistics are really interesting!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 29/08/2019 10:19

Well done to the pp who called it on Grayson. Into the top 100.

Poor Alexa. Crashing down because of the Amazon Echo device.

Poetryinaction · 29/08/2019 10:19

Thanks, but I'm still only getting 2017 as the top option?
