Noah is already number 4. Only beat by Oliver, George and Harry.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 09/08/2019 11:18

The publication date has steadily slipped backwards - the data used to come out in August (where did you see 29 August, @Sew3stitch? ONS website still says September / October). I imagine it’s quite a low priority with everything else that’s going on in government.

JemimasJumper · 09/08/2019 12:01

Cookit, ah have I misunderstood. That's normal for me.

Sew3stitch · 09/08/2019 12:08

@ZoyaTheDestroyer ONS website too so maybe they have two dates in different places?! I looked at upcoming releases.

nature names like Ivy so I think that will climb
Grin

Amelie, Emilia, Elodie

Amelia is so popular that I think more are going for slight variations/similar sounding.

Vasya · 09/08/2019 12:20

Ivy will be right up there! Every other girl baby I've met for the last 4 years has been an Ivy.

Expect to see a surge in Archies, but likely not til next year.

LazyLizzy · 09/08/2019 12:30

I'm assuming Destiny-Dior will become DeeDeeGrin .

Pinkout · 12/08/2019 11:11

It’s a shame about Ivy. My DD is called Ivy and when she was born eight years ago there were barely any of them. Sad.

starkid · 12/08/2019 14:45

@Sew3stitch - "Girls seems a bit more varied but I see quite a lot of flower/nature names like Ivy so I think that will climb."

I really hope you did that pun on purpose Grin

Am TTC so always jump straight on the ONS as soon as it's out and despair when my favourite names inevitably become more popular

CocoBlair · 12/08/2019 17:17

Are the American top names available?

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 12/08/2019 20:12

Here you go, @CocoBlair: www.babynamewizard.com/the-top-1000-baby-names-of-2017-united-states-of-america

CocoBlair · 12/08/2019 21:09

Thanks! Wow Liam number one boys nameShock that seems so random

Poetryinaction · 12/08/2019 23:26

American boys names are not my cup of tea!

OP posts:
starkid · 13/08/2019 14:13

Avery as a girls name is ranked 14, Camila ranked 23!

Most of my favourite names are more popular in US than over here - I wonder what that says about my taste...

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 13/08/2019 15:20

Camila (ca-mee-la) is the Spanish form of Camilla and v popular in Hispanic communities in the US.

Hobbesmanc · 13/08/2019 15:54

I'm predicting that pretty old fashioned names will continue for girls- Ceciliy, Celia, Della, Adele, Cecilia. Victorian maid names too- Betty and Mabel and Dora and more regal older names- Beatrice and Dorothy and Marguerite and Daphne. Also nature names like Audra/Audrey, Celeste, Aria, Astra, Lark and Wren

Boys- medieval will continue so I think more Wilfs and Hugos. I think Edwin and Edmund could be break outs. Nature names too- Fox and Bear and Blue and River. I also think some traditional and simple names are due a revival. John and Peter and David are solid but no longer common.

Poetryinaction · 26/08/2019 05:57

Any more ideas now we're nearing the end of August?

OP posts:
Cookit · 26/08/2019 07:24

Are they the real top names in the US? I’m always dubious as at least in the UK the top lists that websites other than the ONS produce are not remotely correct (just made up??). Nameberry has some top names of 2019 data out which was obviously complete crap click bait.

Cookit · 26/08/2019 07:29

Ah, it does look correct! Ignore me.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/08/2019 07:52

I know multiple Theas born recently. Could be one on the rise.

BethanyGilbert · 27/08/2019 08:10

I am shocked that Jessica is 258 on the American chart. Just read it was the number one or two name for 16 years in the 80s and 90s.

Plummydevon · 27/08/2019 18:59

Boys will have to be teddy and versions of! Every boy I know born over the past 18 months was a teddy! Girls are normally Isla- seen loads more violets and Theas so think that they will be on the rise!

Verily1 · 27/08/2019 19:25

I think the royals and game of thrones have a big influence so more
George
Charlotte
Louis
William
Meghan
Lena
Aria/Arianna
Emilia
Kit

Cutsie names still seem to be popular so more
Millie
Maisie
Hallie
Callie
Sadie

And a predominance of ending in ‘a’ babes for girls

B/Ella
Sophia/Sofia
Mila/ Myla
Sienna
Thea
Ayla /Aila
Ada
Luna
Kayla
Aurora

Also the Downton effect so
Cora/ Violet

For boys
Jax/on /Mason / Grayson seems to be an ongoing trend

Surname names also seem to be trending
Owen
Blair
Blake
Hunter
Elliot

‘O’ Names like Arlo and Leo

Star Wars names like
Luke/ Lucas
Kylo
Finn
Leia
