Clara or Mary?

Just found out we are having a little girl due Dec..was wondering your thoughts on the names Mary and Clara..do you like them? Have a favourite between the two? Thanks

I do like Mary but still think of it as a little 'old'

I like both, Clara slightly more so because it was on my list. I quite like Clara with Mary as a mn.

Clara. Lovely, unusual but classic, pleasing sounds, easy to spell. Mary is also fab but more similar to lots of other names.

It's not even a contest. If she's due in December. She has to be Mary. Plus Mary is virtually unheard on little ones now. Clara is starting to become tedious

I love Clara. Mary is ok but still feels a bit too old fashioned and a bit too “solid” /dull rather than pretty to me.

Mary is lovely.

Clara is nice too, but it's definitely of the moment, so I think it will date.

I'd definitely go with Mary. I also love Maria if that's an option. My ds was going to be Maria or Juliet if he'd been a girl.

I love the name Clara.
When I watched the film Heidi as a little girl, I always wanted to be called Clara after her friend.
If my youngest child had been a girl, Clara would have been the name and still remains my all time favourite now!

Clara is beautiful. You could always use Mary as a middle name or a variation of the name, like Maria.

I'm liking Mary, not came across a little Mary since I was in school (80s).

Other good Christmas names are Eve and Carol.

Both were on my list and I went with Mary. I wanted something beautiful but simple and not fancy. It suits my daughter perfectly, she is a teen now and I have always been very happy with my choice. Go for Mary!

I love both but edging towards Mary.
THey sound nice together so you could use whichever one you don’t choose as a middle name unless you want to save it for a sibling
