Alternatives to Raphael..

Raphael is one of my very favourite names but we have one of the most British surnames known to man. And it just sounds a bit silly Grin

What would be a good alternative? Maybe similar sounding? Been wracking my brains and only come up with Raffety which I’m not convinced I like so much..

Recent thread about Thaddeus and Balthazar covered lots of similar names, unfortunately I don't know how to link.

And YY to Gabriel. Fab name.

Freddolin · 26/07/2019 21:36

Oh, also Fabian and Ruben.

These are my favourite kinds of names. Unfortunately DH won't entertain them.

I love Gabriel too! I know a baby Rafferty. I think it's sweet.

Rufus?

Ohh I like Ralph, that’s kinda cute! Hadn’t actually thought of Ralph.
Rueben is lovely, it’s on my list of possibles.

I like Gabriel a lot but my other half is a no..

I think I’m less keen of Raffety because I went to school with the poshest idiot called Raffety.. it’s funny how people in your life can put you off names! I’m an ex teacher & ive got a long list of names I just cannot use due to horror children Grin

I've never heard of Raffety. Is it a variation of Rafferty?

IsobelRae23 · 27/07/2019 19:21

@Bol87 I loved the naming part when you’ve been a teacher. DP would make a suggestion, nope I taught one of those in reception, then another suggestion, I had a horrible one of those on teaching practice. Then we would finally pick names and mil, Aunt, uncle would all have the ‘I taught one of those....’ the joys of a teaching family!

Rafe, Rufus, Raffery, Ralph, Rae, Tobias, Fabian, Atticus, Alister, Avery, Dorian, Emmett, Edwin, Fletcher, Finn, Gideon, Horacio, Even, Jude, Jasper, Gabriel, Leon, Leigh, Matteo, Nate, Nathaniel, Quinn, Samson, Seth, Riley, Sean, Taylor, Tate, Ellis, Elliot, Winston, Watson, Ethan, Ashton, Noah, Felix,

Michaelangelo?
Just use Raphael if you like it. Unless Raphael sounds awful with your surname.

MikeUniformMike · 27/07/2019 19:59

Don't call him Rueben. It's Reuben.

ShowOfHands · 27/07/2019 20:03

I have a Raphael EnglishSurname. Never thought anything of it tbh.
