Just seen Coco's meant to be Clover. Which makes me think of the name a farmer would give his prize cow, sorry.

Favourites are Margot, Cleo/Clio and Cassie.

Frith2013 · 26/07/2019 18:52

Margot - hate it and there will be millions of them. Maggot or escargot.

Margaret - I’ll
Coco - quite nice
Cleo/Clio - ok

alessandrae83 · 26/07/2019 19:35

Elizabeth- Love. Timeless classic with such lovely nicknames.

Margot - I personally love this but it's a marmite name on MN

Charlotte- like this but hate Charley or lottie as an

Margaret- No. Too frumpy. Margot is much prettier.

Coco - the clown? Definitely not unless short for Colette

Cleo/Clio - ok but not my fave

Esme- I like this. I also love Esmeralda with Esme as a nn but not brave enough.

Blanche- sounds like branch or bland. Horrible name

Blair- witch project or someone spitting out horrible food bleugh

Cassie- love love love. Prefer as a nn for cassandra or cassia though but nonetheless love it.

DontPanic42 · 26/07/2019 19:36

Love Clover! So glad it wasn't Coco! Really like Elizabeth, Margot and Charlotte, the rest for me are a bit meh.

Tartyflette · 26/07/2019 19:50

Blair. It's a surname. Might be ok for a boy but horrible for a girl, very Blunt and hard-sounding.
Charlotte - will be called Charlie. Just saying.
Esme - odd that it's popular. Used to be a man's name. Will never be again.
Clio -- no, it's a car. But if you like it, how about Astra?
Margot - it's fine but it is a derivation of Margaret. (Which is a classic of course but not everyone likes it. )
Elizabeth - another classic, deservedly so. And lots of choice for pretty nicknames like Beth, Eliza, Bess etc.

anitagreen · 26/07/2019 19:51

I have a Cassie it's lovely and I've not met another since

Militantmartha · 26/07/2019 19:54

Elizabeth - boring also just make me think of the queen
Margot - nice but very popular
Charlotte - a timeless classic
Margaret - quite dowdy
Clover - the spreadable buttery taste of
Cleo/Clio - pretty but makes me think of Renault
Esme - lovely
Blanche - it's cute but imagine will get a few negative reactions
Blair - Tony
Cassie - very pretty

PrincessLouis · 26/07/2019 20:40

I like Elizabeth, Charlotte & Margaret as they are all timeless classics with lots of nicknames (including Margot for Margaret). The other ones are all a bit faddy / insubstantial for my taste. Good luck choosing!!

17caterpillars1mouse · 26/07/2019 20:46

Elizabeth - a lovely classic, I personally prefer the spelling Elisabeth. I do know quite a few under 5s called Elizabeth though

Margot - it's OK, seems popular on here but I've only actually come across one irl

Charlotte - lovely name but the currently popularity of Lottie puts me off. I do like Charlie though

Margaret - I like it

Coco - quirky but not sure I'd like it as my name. I think yu would need to be quite outgoing to pull it off

Cleo/Clio - not a fan. Makes me think of cars

Esme - pretty just not my style

Blanche - love it!

Blair - Tony. Enough said

Cassie - find it a bit meh

My top 3 would be Blanche, Charlotte and Margaret

Least favourites Clio and Coco

daisypond · 26/07/2019 20:58

Elizabeth - yes, strong, classic, lots of short forms
Margot- yes, but it’s in fashion at the moment.
Charlotte- not keen. Despite it being a classic name it has downmarket vibes. It’s the ch sound at the start., Cheryl, Chardonnay etc
Margaret - yes, better than Margot. Similar to Elizabeth.
Clover- yes , I like it. Quirky but a real flower name.
Cleo/Clio- not so keen but OK. Clio is better than Cleo but people will spell it wrongly.
Esme - just looks wrong. It needs another E and an accent.
Blanche- ok, unusual but a bit bald.
Blair- no. Boy name and surname.
Cassie- too nicknamed. If short for something longer it’d be ok.

WhenZogateSuperworm · 26/07/2019 21:00

Elizabeth - nice. Classic.
Margot- cute for a toddler but can’t imagine as a teenager
Charlotte- too common
Margaret - too old
Clover- butter
Cleo/Clio- a car
Esme - meh. Don’t love or hate.
Blanche- old lady from Corrie
Blair- boy’s name. Witch project.
Cassie- don’t like but don’t know why.

Happyhouralways · 26/07/2019 21:20

Elizabeth - like, it’s a classic but don’t like Lizzie as nickname
Margot - like too but may depend on where you live - imagine shouting “Margot home time!” at your local park
Charlotte - my favourite
Margaret - love Maggie as nn
Coco - not keen, bit of a pet name for me
Cleo/Clio - like Cleo
Esme - makes me think of an older person, no idea why
Blanche - same as Margot (but prefer Margot a lot more)
Blair - boys name to me
Cassie - like more than thought I would. Possibly sounds a bit 80s...

Goons luck OP x

username1724 · 26/07/2019 23:02

Esme, Cassie and Elizabeth are lovely

almostalwayslaura · 26/07/2019 23:06

Elizabeth - no, that is the queen. More of a middle name also
Margot- love it, very unique and retro - like Martha
Charlotte - hmm very royalesque
Margaret - I like Maggie
Coco - no
Cleo/Clio - is a car or a dog
Esme - love it
Blanche - like a soup?
Blair - Americanised
Cassie - it’s a-ok

StarJumpsandaHalf · 26/07/2019 23:22

Love
Elizabeth. Timeless, strong, goes with any personality type and family name, plus endless possibilities for short forms or pet names.
Margot. Elegant.

Don't Mind
Charlotte. OK but very over used. Wouldn't choose it.
Margaret. Like short forms, but actually much prefer Marguerite, which I would choose above Margot.

Strongly Dislike
Clover. Prize dairy cow.
Cleo/Clio. Renault or a try hard model type who isn't really a model.
Esme. Brings to mind a 1950's geography teacher who is stout, wears brown leather lace up brogues and grey woolen cardigans. Sorry.
Blanche. Cooking term which is kind of neither here nor there. Insipid.
Blair. Witch. Associated with Tony. Not a name I'd want to be associated with.
Cassie. Can't really even explain why, but really dislike.

DramaAlpaca · 26/07/2019 23:26

Elizabeth - classic & strong with lots of potential diminutives
Margot - very trendy, but I find it harsh & unattractive
Charlotte - another classic, very pretty name
Margaret - I don't like this, it's hard & old fashioned
Coco - not keen, it's more of a nickname
Clover - it reminds me of 'What Katy Did', it's sweet
Cleo/Clio - Cleo I really like, Clio is a car
Esme - popular. I don't mind the Ez-mee pronunciation, but I'm not keen on Ez-may
Blanche - blimey, that is one hideous name. It makes me think of blanching vegetables before freezing them.
Blair - also hideous on a girl, it's a surname
Cassie - it's OK. A bit nicknamey.

Cyberworrier · 26/07/2019 23:46

Elizabeth - good, classic, not many of them about
Margot - too popular at the moment. Marguerite instead?
Charlotte- classic, lovely, popular
Margaret - great nickname potential, never met one under 50! Like it.
Clover- knew a beautiful and interesting Clover when I was younger. Good one.
Cleo/Clio-good, relatively safe
Esme - love this name
Blanche- meh, negative connotations Blanche Dubois
Blair- Scottish surname, not pretty, don’t! (And yeah tony)
Cassie- my friends dogs name

Tillygetsit · 26/07/2019 23:55

Elizabeth- Love. Great nn potential and a strong substantial sounding name to me
Margot- No. Will be shortened to Marg.
Charlotte- Meh
Margaret- No. As a child of rabid Thatcher haters this name will be forever tainted
Clover- Bit too mooey
Cleo/Clio- OK
Esme- No. This name smells of mothballs to me
Blanche- No. Just no.
Blair - Yuk
Cassie - Gorgeous but I have a Cassia so may be biased.

Mollie3 · 27/07/2019 00:09

Elizabeth - like! classic name can be shortened to various different forms I.e. Lizzy, Beth.
Margot - nice but reminds me a bit of the seaside town Margate.
Charlotte - like! See Elizabeth.
Margaret - dislike, old fashioned but not in a good way. (Can shorten to Marge which is worse?)
Coco - like! But it is the beginning of several breakfast cereals...
Cleo/Clio - dislike, reminds me of a Renault Clio.
Esme - like! But you may find pronunciation varies I.e. ‘E-z-mee’, etc.
Blanche - dislike, just sounds so unappealing. Reminds me of a trifle for some reason. Also isn’t this a cooking method?
Blair - ok but reminds me of an x prime minister and that witch project film. What about Blake instead? Oops sorry 🤦‍♀️
Cassie - ok but reminds me of a cats name.

nannytothequeen · 27/07/2019 00:12

For me Elizabeth - elegant, timeless or Margot - similarly elegant or Cleo - strong and simple.

Megggg · 27/07/2019 16:23

Elizabeth - Not a fan, I think it’s a bit boring
Margot - Love, pretty without being too frilly
Charlotte - Also love, once again pretty but not frilly
Margaret - I don’t like this as much as the previous two, the sound just isn’t as nice to me, but I still thinks it’s a lovely name with lots of nickname possibilities
Clover - Sounds like a name for a horse or other pet to me, but I don’t hate it
Cleo/Clio - I’ve never liked Cleo, the ‘cl’ sound is unpleasant to me, I’ve also only ever seen it spelled Cleo but could be wrong there
Esme - Love this, same reasons as for Charlotte and Margot. My favourite on the list.
Blanche - worst on the list for me, makes me think of a blanched face, and I don’t like the sound
Blair - Makes me think of someone saying ‘bleh’, so not a fan
Cassie - makes me think of ‘gassy’ so again not a fan.

Expressedways · 27/07/2019 16:27

In order:
Margot
Charlotte
Elizabeth
Margaret
All lovely names! I really dislike the others on your list.

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2019 17:50

Elizabeth
Margot
Charlotte
Margaret: I really like this because of all the nickname potential. Meg would be my choice
Clover: LOVE THIS
Cleo/Clio: Not my favourite. Cleopatra doesn't have great connotations, imo.
Esme: It's okay but I suspect it will be very dated
Blanche: Golden Girls
Blair: Tony.
Cassie: A bit bland.

Margaret or Clover.

bridgetreilly · 27/07/2019 17:51

Oh. Don't know how I missed the top 3. They're all good, but I don't like them as much as Margaret or Clover.
