We've found the name but scared of people's reaactions

Baby #2 is due in October. I already have a son, Stanley.
I'm fussy with names
Nothing in top 50
Nothing with strong R or W sound (clashes with surname)
Not ambiguous to say/spell
Vintage or classic name
Has nickname options.
Middle name will be Elsie

So after a LOT of researching a name came to me out of nowhere. It's very unusual and a vintage girl name. I love it and Husband does. However when I look it up on websites, it seems to be a name people either love, or hate.
So now I'm doubting myself.
Do I just go with the name that feels right, and that meets my criteria and brace myself for a few possibly insensitive/negative comments OR just go back to the drawing board again?

Have to go against the grain and say that Araminta is far nicer than Elsie.

If you love a name, then fuck other people’s opinions and just go for it. That’s what my DH and I did.

Not that my opinion matters but I think Elsie Araminta flows a lot better than Araminta Elsie!

I like it! And while it's 'posh' whereas Stanley is traditionally 'un-posh', only middle class parent call their boys Stanley these days so I think it works! Elsie as a middle name is like wearing shocking pink with red though!

Also, you may already be aware but 'Minnie' is a word commonly used to mean vulva. Just something to be aware of.

I only know it from ‘Moondial’ (and I think the character wasn’t keen on it), but I think it’s pretty.

I used to watch a tv show as a kid and that was the lead characters name, I bloody love it! Love Minty for short too

Personally not to my liking, if I were you I'd go for Elsie as a first name instead, like PPs have said it fits nicely with Stanley.

Also would've said Stanley was much more of a MC name than WC- shocked so many think otherwise

Don't like Elsie with it , but Elsa might work instead.
I really wouldn't care if it matches your DS's name because I think you're on a hard road trying to match anything attractive with Stanley - Rhonda is the first thing that comes to my mind for some reason re matching, but that is not a great name.

Araminta is seriously posh, but it's OK. I can't bear Minty though. Nor Elsie, which is a completely different type of name to Araminta.

Stanley might be trendy in MC circles at the moment but it was solidly WC last time round. Fashions come and go.

Anyway OP, I think Araminta is rather nice and it is an actual name which has been around for a few centuries,unlike some of the made up ones of today.
Middle names are nice to have but not that important in that they're not normally used in everyday situations, so just choose whatever you like for all names.

I don’t love it or hate it but I am a little confused.

• you want no r sounds and it has an r sound.
• the middle name must be Elsie but Araminta Elsie doesnt flow at all well.
• you have a son with a traditionally very working class name and are choosing a traditionally very upper class name for your daughter. Of course they don’t have to ‘go’ but personally I wouldn’t be comfortable doing that.
• you want a name that is easy to say and spell. It is neither of these things.

What a great name! It's one of those names that I can't believe is not used more often. I assume Araminty is an even rarer version of the same name, and is one I really like especially because of the mother character, Mrs Brown, in National Velvet.

If you like it, call her Araminta and who cares what anyone thinks. But they don’t go. It’s kind of like calling your kids Sebastian and Tracy

It's not to my taste. It sounds like an unnecessarily long name. A bit like Arabella or Petronella. And Minty definitely would be a member of the pony club ...

But, If you like it use it! My dd has a name that divides opinion, but I love it.

If I'm being honest I've never come across the name (and I work in childcare!) but that's no indication. Fwiw I love Elsie!!

What about Arabella, Analise, Annabelle?? I also loved Elodie but not personally with Elsie as a middle name.
