Help with final list and middle names

tokywoky · 22/07/2019 13:33

So we have finally got a list together of names for our baby. Please could you rate and suggest middle names? Surname begins with an a and is two syllables.

Girls
Iris
Willa
Freya

I would love to give a nod to my late mother but not a fan of her name. Her birth stone is ruby and flower is Lilly so could work those into middle name instead.

Boys
Rowan
Oscar

Thanks!

(let's say your surname is Allen)
Girls
Iris - LOVE LOVE LOVE. classic, pretty, unique
Willa - don't like at all, sounds made up. Willow?
Freya - lovely but v popular.

Iris Ruby Allen sounds great, and so does Freya Ruby Allen.

Rowan - love, unique but not too out there
Oscar - nice but popular

I like Rowan James Allen.

Girls middle name suggestions -
Grace, Rose, Rae, Wren, Mae, Louise, Emma (I like Iris Emma)

Boys -
Ash, Ace, Cass, John, Paul, Samuel

(these are off the top of my head!)

Willa and Oscar 😊

carmenbea · 22/07/2019 14:12

I love Willa and Oscar

tokywoky · 22/07/2019 14:21

Willow was our original choice, but it has gone so popular around here that I'm worried it will date easily.

Thanks for the other suggestions!

Iris Lilly or Iris Ruby are both lovely.
I'm not really a fan of Freya but Freya Lilly is nice and goes well.
Dislike Willow and Willa even more. They are both 'common' nowadays where I live.
Oscar is really lovely.
Not keen on Rowan.Think I prefer it as a feminine name.

gracepoolesrum · 22/07/2019 14:33

Another vote for Willa and Oscar

Fieldfayre1 · 22/07/2019 14:34

Rebecca, Louisa, Eleanor
Max, Mark, Markus?
When the baby is born you will know!
All the best.

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/07/2019 14:47

Willa and Roman for me. Closely followed by Iris. I wouldn’t go for Willa Lilly though as way too many L’s. Willa Ruby is nice though.

Cbeebiesrehab · 22/07/2019 14:47

Rowan not Roman!

Frith2013 · 22/07/2019 14:54

Iris - great
Willa - no, reminds me of villi (in the intestine) or willies
Freya - also great

Iris Ruby better than Iris Lily. Though you could have Iris Lilian?

Freya Ruby and Freya Lily both fine.

Frith2013 · 22/07/2019 14:56

And I prefer Oscar to Rowan.

Jellystars · 22/07/2019 14:56

I think Freya Ruby would be great.
I love Oscar.

AppleDump · 22/07/2019 15:00

Freya Hannah A
Roan (different spelling) Edward A

Fuiseog · 22/07/2019 15:11

All such lovely names!
I especially love Willa from your girl list (shocked to hear it is popular and the most divisive, as it is not popular at all here - but I'm not UK based - and I think it has a gorgeous, classic, gentle, pretty feeling) BUT as your surname begins with an "A", that makes Iris the clear winner for me. I think first names that end on the same letter as the surname begins run the risk of getting run together and one of them sounding like a different shorter name. For example, Samuel Lynch can sound like Samuel Inch or Samueh Lynch. So Freya and Willa could end up sounding like Frey/Will Surname or the surname could end up sounding shorter.
If they were your favourites, it might not make a difference - and it mightn't bother you at all anyway - but since you have three to narrow down and one does not have the same issue and is a beautiful name also, I mention it.

With Iris, I would pick Ruby. I think Iris Ruby is a beautiful combination and a lovely way to honour your mother, while I am not mad about double flower names (it always feels a bit like identity confusion to me!).

I really love both your boy names so I find it hard to say which I'd go for without knowing the surname. That's probably what it would come down to for me as they are both such nice names and I think I like them more or less equally.

Happy choosing!

MikeUniformMike · 23/07/2019 19:05

Girls
Iris - ok.
Willa - not keen
Freya -nice but overused

I would love to give a nod to my late mother but not a fan of her name. Her birth stone is ruby and flower is Lilly so could work those into middle name instead. - it's a bit contrived. The flower is Lily not Lilly. Ruby and Lily ok, but see how it sounds with the first name.

Boys
Rowan - like
Oscar - don't like

ladycarlotta · 25/07/2019 23:07

I love, love, LOVE Willa!

That is all.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/07/2019 23:12

Willa might depend on your accent.
Hey, Willa will ya go out with me?

Freya Rose
Freya Marie

Rowan James
Rowan Flynn

HellYeah90s · 25/07/2019 23:16

Freya is my favourite,

Iris is nice too but I am sort of over the flower names. Really not keen on Willa, I'd probably put Willow on BC and just call her Willa as a nickname.

Not really excited about either Rowan or Oscar, but I would probably pick Rowan as I am not a fan of unisex names.

HellYeah90s · 25/07/2019 23:17

Pick Oscar that is

C0untDucku1a · 25/07/2019 23:18

Willa and Rowan. All the others are very popular

whizzpopbangalang · 26/07/2019 19:26

Freya and Oscar - I actually know siblings by these names, Iove them

alessandrae83 · 26/07/2019 19:32

Girls

Iris - I love this name and Iris Lily or Iris Ruby sounds lovely..failing that Iris Harmony? Iris Jasmine?

Willa- hate this..Will I what?

Freya - I love this name Freya lily is lovely

Boys

Rowan - not a fan

Oscar - this is a dogs name to me and ozzy as a nickname would be horrid

bridgetreilly · 26/07/2019 20:48

When it's a name you can spell it how you like, but the flower is definitely spelt Lily, so if that's your reason for it, that's how I'd spell it.

I like Freya Lily. Also love Rowan for a boy.

diddlediddle · 26/07/2019 22:24

Definitely Iris. It's beautiful and I would use it if I could.

Willa and Freya run badly into your surname as a PP mentioned. Freya is way popular and Willa to me is just too close to Willy 😅

Can't have iris lily so iris ruby it is!

Prefer Rowan to Oscar. Oscar is so popular now. What middle names were you considering for a boy?

Tillygetsit · 27/07/2019 00:15

Iris Lily and Rowan James. I'm sure Rowan has only recently become unisex.
