Classic name for 6th baby - thoughts?!

Hi!

We have 5 children already of mixed genders and are expecting baby no 6, all of the others have very classic/ royal names.

We have narrowed down this little one to Alexander, Benjamin or Alfred (maybe Alf when older), 4 of our children have names that can't be shortened and one can but we use his whole name.

What are peoples thoughts on the above ideas, or can you think of any others?

Thanks!

Benjamin is my favourite closely followed by Alexander. Not a big fan of Alfred tbh. Other suggestions;
Samuel
Theodore
Christopher
Nathaniel
Frederick
Nicholas
Gregory
Barnaby

I love Alexander too, but not keen on Alex, at least not until a teenager if ever. Hubby thinks it might be a bit of a mouthful unshortened, whereas I don't mind!

I think you have to be fine with shortenings as well as the original name tbh. Alexander can also be Xander for example.

George2011 · 20/07/2019 21:48

Great list, our other three boys are on there 😂😀

Yes yes to Alexander, called Xander!

George2011 · 20/07/2019 21:50

I like this shortening the best too! Our last son was very nearly called Alexander so I know deep down its a name I do really like 😀

DS has a friend called Alexander. Typically he is Zandy. But lately the kids call him Alex. You can't make people shorten names to ones you want.

I like Alexander. I know a teenage one and his nickname is Ally.

Flooopers · 21/07/2019 01:06

Lastus

Madmamto4 · 21/07/2019 08:54

I've got a Alexander, love the name

HellYeah90s · 21/07/2019 09:45

I am not keen on Alfred, so many Alfies around.

Benjamin is lovely, I don't know many babies that are called Benjamin these days.

I am a bit meh on Alexander.

Astronica · 21/07/2019 13:29

I love Alexander. I would use Alec, Xander or Lex as a short form.

songlikeyou · 21/07/2019 17:06

I love Alexander and Benjamin from your list, I also know an Alexander who goes by Alec which I think is lovely.

Other suggestions are Tobias, Charles, Nathaniel, Anthony, Vincent, Jacob, Francis, Daniel, Xavier, and Jeremy.

BogglesGoggles · 21/07/2019 17:11

I would have thought sixtus surely!

Emmapeeler · 21/07/2019 17:25

Alexander is lovely if you haven’t used it.

I like that, and George, Thomas and James best for boys.

KronksSpinachPuffs · 21/07/2019 18:49

Alexander is my favourite then Benjamin. If I ever have a son I'd like his middle name to be Alexander.

I actually like alfred nn Alf! Usually people shorten it to Alfie which I strongly dislike.

Esto · 21/07/2019 18:52

Problem with Alfred is the shortenings to Alfie or Freddie, neither of which are my cup of tea (I like Alf though)

Alexander is lovely and the shortenings are great. Lots of men round this way called Sandy from Alexander, which I think is really sweet!

Esto · 21/07/2019 18:59

PS congratulations! I'm one of six and it was lovely. We all have classic names too, names which my parents thought couldn't be shortened but children have a knack of nicknaming everyone regardless!

dementedma · 21/07/2019 19:59

Benedict instead of Benjamin?
Sebastian
