Can I have a Magnus and a Fergus?

NC for this as it's very outing!

I have two sons, Magnus and Hamish, I love both of their names. I am now pregnant again and totally stuck for names.

We love Fergus (we are in Scotland btw, in case anyone is sensing a theme!) but can I have a Magnus and a Fergus? They are so similar sounding.

If not - any ideas for boys or girls names that would 'go' with my other two? I know some people hate matching set names but we've sort of gone down that road already!

I like Fergus, I think you can definitely use it, it goes lovely with your other boys. I have two Scottish boys names too and I also love Torquil. Dh vetoed it though for any further children so you may have it ha!

For girls I like Eilish, Flora and Florrie.

pepsimax20bigger · 20/07/2019 07:50

Struan
Kirsty

HeronLanyon · 20/07/2019 11:18

GoFiguire · 20/07/2019 12:29
Grin

How about Fergalonz?

Fatkins · 20/07/2019 13:07

I have a Fergus and he is fabulous! I get a lot of compliments on it, but when I don't get a compliment, I always am safe assuming the person HATES it 😂. It's a bit marmite I think, which I didn't realise until he was here and named! I am (mainly) Irish and it's a family name, but I also know a few Scottish and even English Ferguses. So I think it's actually quite classic and won't date like all the Alfie / Archie names.

I love Magnus and Hamish too and fwiw and I think Fergus and Magnus are ok together. I far prefer Fergus to Felix although we also considered Felix for our DS. It is lovely too.

I like Ruaridh better than Rory too and think it's fab to have "Scotland the brave" names. You are in Scotland after all!

Fatkins · 20/07/2019 13:44

PS: I also call him Gus for short, which I think is also a little marmite 🤔

Lessstressedhemum · 20/07/2019 13:59

I think they are fine together. All my son's have strong Scottish names.

If you don't want to have Fergus what about
Fionnladh
Innes
Tearlach
Aibne
Andrew

Fatkins · 20/07/2019 17:24

PPS: Lauren Laverne has a Fergus and a Mack! Quite similar to Fergus and Magnus maybe?

Fatkins · 20/07/2019 17:26

Sorry, that isn't a criticism btw. I think Lauren Laverne is quite a cool sleb to share baby names with Smile.

Greyhound22 · 20/07/2019 18:28

I like them all - I really like Scottish names but no I think they're too similar sorry.

nameshelp · 20/07/2019 21:12

Some great suggestions here, Kester was on the list for Hamish but literally everyone I mentioned it to hated it!

Flora is definitely on the list and I love Alba, but we are in real Scotland the brave territory with that one I think! I actually love Heather but it's a really common name among my age group (late 30s/early 40s) so I know loads of them.

For boys I have convinced DH to put Duncan and Arran on the list, I met a little Torin today as well and liked that.

Dugald. ❤️

Mhairi ❤️

lemonjam · 20/07/2019 21:30

Ruairidh, Innes, Callan, Oran, and Torin are my favourite Scottish boys names.

I love love love Alba, and like Mhairi and Eilidh. Quite like Ishbel even if it’s a wee bit old lady!

lemonjam · 20/07/2019 21:31

Magnus Hamish and Alba would be fantastic!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/07/2019 21:33

Lachlan, just as a curve ball?

Divgirl2 · 20/07/2019 21:35

Ruairidh is my favourite (if you're struggling to pronounce it it's just Brewery without the B).
Also - Struan, Cameron, Alistair, Gregor

Girls - Elspeth, Fiona, Ailsa, Shona, Morag

Keewee27 · 20/07/2019 21:54

I know brothers called Magnus and Lucas, so similar endings to yours, op. Until now I hadn't really ever said their names together so I think you can definitely get away with Magnus and Fergus because how often are you going to say their names together unless you're telling people your children's names and with Hamish in the middle it sounds fine.
Also love Flora for a girl or Aisling (but I think that's Irish, isn't it?!)

Lessstressedhemum · 20/07/2019 22:35

Girls names, what about

sorcha
Marsali
Mhairi
Eileis
Cairstine
Bonnie

BananaBeforeBed · 20/07/2019 23:02

Xander for a boy
Mirrin for a girl

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/07/2019 09:39

How weird, I used to know a Magnus and Fergus family.
Course you can. Call your kids what you want

NanooCov · 21/07/2019 09:54

Brodie is a good one. And I've always liked Catriona for a girl.

Piggywaspushed · 21/07/2019 10:05

I love how loads of posters are either suggesting Irish names or misspelling Scottish ones!

If you are considering Calum please spell it the Scottish way!! I do like Cal.

Piggywaspushed · 21/07/2019 10:07

Depends on where you are from but I can't bear Xander. That is not a Scots abbreviation. I nearly called my DS Alexander but couldn't bear the thought if hearing a long vowel at the end. A proper abbreviation in Scotland would be Sandy or Alec.

BananaBeforeBed · 21/07/2019 10:14

Erm, I’m Scottish and have a Xander, short for Alexander.
