Thoughts on gus? I'm not keen on Angus or Augustus for a longer version, any suggestions if not we may consider using just gus as the official name

I personally prefer long versions of names on birth certificates, but I know not everyone does.

How about Fergus or Gustav?

AnonymousP · 18/07/2019 17:04

August
Magnus

Gus is a cool name.

I’m a fan of shortened names as the full name. My best friend is Kate. Just Kate. She often has to explain she is NOT Katherine etc but just Kate, but I don’t think that makes it any less viable.

Gus is nice. Neighbour had a dog called Gus a few neighbours ago...😊

Gusset
Sorry but that’s what it always reminds me of.

Colourfulest · 18/07/2019 17:21

I think it's an awful name/sound, sorry!

fieldsofclover · 18/07/2019 18:18

Oh that’s awful- sorry!

Sparklfairy · 18/07/2019 18:19

Gus? The fat mouse from Cinderella?

MummyItsallaboutyou · 18/07/2019 18:22

I have one! Just Gus. We spent ages trying to think of longer versions and nothing felt right. My Gus loves his name.

Flubberyseal · 18/07/2019 18:27

My little nephew is Magnus, shortened to Gus at times. It’s a great name.

MikeUniformMike · 18/07/2019 18:44

Gussie Fink-Nottle
Gusset

DramaAlpaca · 18/07/2019 20:03

I don't like it at all, even though I like Angus & Magnus.

FartnissEverbeans · 18/07/2019 20:08

I taught a teenager named Augustus who was absolutely mortified by his name. We were forbidden from using it. He went by Gus, which I think is an awesome name.

Ellmau · 18/07/2019 21:18

Gustavus
Augustine

Frith2013 · 18/07/2019 22:03

No.

Augustus Gloop.

Cookit · 18/07/2019 22:13

I like it a lot. Surname would need to be right with such a short first time though. Gus Smith for instance is too short. I think ideally you’d want a three syllable surname for a Gus - not sure why that is as other one syllable names like Jane or Rose I can see with a short surname.

beaveringaways · 18/07/2019 23:32

Thanks everyone, still no longer names jumping out that I like but do agree with a previous poster that I like a longer official name so will have to keep thinking! @Cookit surname is 3 syllables so all good there Smile

Makes me think of Gus the Gummy Gator!

Astronica · 19/07/2019 03:24

I love Gus just on its own, and have come across a couple. Also love it short for Fergus, Magnus, August.

NiLunNiLautre · 19/07/2019 09:21

Eurgh, horrible... makes me think gusset, pus, gas, guff

Ellmau · 19/07/2019 23:05

It isn't quite right for a Gus shortening, but could Remigius be an option?

Ditto, Franciscus.

Argus.
