Which do you prefer of the following names?

George
Jacob
Lucas
Noah
Samuel
Thomas

Would be interested to hear views of others - I'm slightly concerned that Noah in particular may be a name which dates.

George or Thomas, don't like the others

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2019 20:01

George - classic
Jacob - nice but very popular
Lucas - nice but very popular
Noah - nice but very popular. overused and too similar to No
Samuel - love it. Samson could be used too.
Thomas - love it

marmiteandmarmalade · 17/07/2019 20:01

Samuel is my favourite from your list.

donkey86 · 17/07/2019 20:02

I prefer George and Thomas, with Samuel and Jacob a rung below that. I wouldn’t go for Lucas or Noah - they’ll both be dated pretty soon. Noah might be a bit already.

Cathyheathcliff · 17/07/2019 20:03

Another vote for Samuel. It's my favourite on your list. Really like Lucas aswell though

BlueMerchant · 17/07/2019 20:05

Thomas.

Nettleweed · 17/07/2019 20:33

Jacob.

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 17/07/2019 20:41

Thank you - interesting range, but lots of love for Samuel and Thomas! Thomas may end up as a middle name as we may be unable to use it (long story) but it's a strong contender.

I know roughly one child of each name so none seem hugely popular here but we seem to live in a Theo/Max/Charlie area (based on older DC's nursery playmates).Grin

Do you think Lucas is likely to date in the same way as Noah? It is probably my joint favourite with Samuel but am concerned about it seeming "trendy" or dating quickly.

Thomas is lovely

Equatoria · 17/07/2019 20:50

George - classic, like
Jacob - classic, like
Lucas - not keen, prefer Luke
Noah - ok but a bit moany
Samuel - dull, reminds me of mules
Thomas - ok

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2019 20:52

George - classic
Jacob - nice but very popular
Lucas - nice but very popular
Noah - nice but very popular. overused and too similar to No
Samuel - love it. Samson could be used too.
Thomas - love it

I would pick Samuel but I have a current crush on Samson, which could be thought of as a Jensen/Jaxon/Jason/Mason type name despite being a OT name.
The safe choices are George and Thomas, of which I prefer Thomas.
The other 3 I wouldn't choose.
So Samuel or Thomas.
I love Sam and Tom as nn and Sammy and Tommy are cute for tots.

NapsAndTea · 17/07/2019 20:55

Samuel & Thomas are my favourites x

teenmum18 · 17/07/2019 20:58

Jacob

boosterrooster · 17/07/2019 21:15

Lucas and Jacob would be my faves from your list

Agree with you on Noah...

Tillygetsit · 17/07/2019 22:54

Jacob.

DramaAlpaca · 17/07/2019 23:04

Thomas is my favourite. I like Lucas & Jacob too.

Noah is my least. It sounds whiny & there are so many of them that it will date.

ABitOTT · 18/07/2019 00:04

If you're worried about dating, the. I shouldn't worry. My DS is in his twenties & has friends with all the names you've mentioned.

Astronica · 18/07/2019 00:32

In answer to your question, I don't think Lucas will date as much as Noah, but it may date more than Thomas and Samuel.

My favourites are Thomas and George, but I like them all except Noah.

Disappearedtothe80s · 18/07/2019 02:21

Lucas won't date that much, it has been in the top 100 for probably nearly 20 years. Noah on the hand will, it falls in the same vein as other biblical names that are trendy (Elijah etc).

My favourite is Samuel, that is not as popular as it once was. Thomas is lovely too.

That said there is nothing wrong with names that date, my three children all have names which are way out fashion now, but were popular 15-20yrs ago. Meh, I like the names and I still do.

AmyMaria2 · 18/07/2019 07:54

George

starkid · 18/07/2019 11:22

Samuel :)

Sophronia · 18/07/2019 12:02

Nice list. My DS has one of these names and a potential DS2 would have another one! The only one I’m not keen on is Noah.

Jiggy16 · 18/07/2019 13:45

Samuel and Jacob mummy here! With Thomas as a middle name, so all 3 get my full support! Jacob is very popular but it is a lovely name. Know of lots of Noahs, nice name but yes very very popular.

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 18/07/2019 14:59

Thank you all! Good to get a range of opinions. Interesting that Lucas has been in the top 100 for a lot longer than I realised...
