I posted before and got lots of suggestions, I’ve added a few that me and DH thought of ourselves. I know a lot of names are nicknames, but we won’t be putting the longer version on the birth certificate as that’s just personal preference and we don’t see the point in having a name on the birth certificate that we never intend on using (I have a nickname name and that’s never held me back).

Mary
Ada
Pearl
Winnie
Enid
Elsie
Daisy
Edie
Nellie
Opal
Nancy
Tilly
Dottie

Our last name starts in S and is a syllable long. What name would be your favourite? And any middle name suggestions?

I like Edie a lot. Would pair it with Wren as a middle name x

Divgirl2 · 13/07/2019 14:29

Pearl Smith
Opal Smith
Daisy Smith
Enid Smith

My favourite is Opal from your list, by quite a margin.

I know you didn't say it was Smith.

AnonymousP · 13/07/2019 14:37

I like Ada (prefer Ida though), Pearl, Daisy and Edie (prefer Edith).

Pearl is my fave.

Fatkins · 13/07/2019 14:37

Mary
Pearl
Winnie

Love these!

Nancy is also nice, but less special than these imo.

marmiteandmarmalade · 13/07/2019 14:40

I like Edie and would use Violet as a middle name.

girlmama1990 · 13/07/2019 14:58

Ada Elsie and Nellie are my faves!

girlmama1990 · 13/07/2019 14:59

I like all three of the above with Rose!

mum2jakie · 13/07/2019 15:00

Daisy or Nancy would both go well with a short surname beginning with S. Not keen on Winnie - it's the sound a horse makes!

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2019 15:12

Mary - an old fashioned name and not one that has now become fashionable - really don’t like it.

Ada - lovely

Pearl - lovely

Winnie - the Pooh
Enid - please no

Elsie - nice

Daisy - very overused but it’s fine. Nothing special.

Edie - lovely

Nellie - the elephant

Opal - nice (ish)

Nancy - fine, bit boring

Tilly - very cutsie but ok if that’s your style. Nice if nn for Matilda

Dottie - potential teasing if she has spots growing up.

Shadow1234 · 13/07/2019 15:48

Esie is my favourite

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2019 15:48

We’ve narrowed it down to Ada and Edie

Family names that could be used for middle names are:

Marguerite
Elizabeth
Hope
Lynette
Heather
Ann

I’d probably have two middle names, one that we like and then one family name

OP posts:
SheldonSaysSo · 13/07/2019 19:13

Edie
Ada
Dotty

Not sure how to fit these with the middle names

BarryMcguigan · 13/07/2019 20:06

Edie Marguerite followed by a single syllable S surname is lovely!!
