DP and I are struggling to come up with names for DS2, having used up all the ones we agreed on last time for DS1! We have somewhat differing tastes in names, shall we say - mine are more classic, his are heavily influenced by films/comics. We reached agreement on Biblical names last time but this is proving trickier.

We both like, but cannot use, Arthur, Isaac, Thomas and Gabriel.

DP has vetoed Joseph (my favourite Sad), Felix and Louis. I have vetoed Bruce and am not keen on Grayson.

Our current list includes:

Lucas
Samuel (these two are my favourites)
Jacob
Noah
Nathaniel

What else might we both like?

Thank you! Really like Zachary but unfortunately won't work as DS1 is Isaac!

Thank you - some good ideas here. I especially like Rufus, Saul, Robin and Jude. Forgot to mention we can't use Alexander, though I do like it.

What do people think of Lucas? And Alistair?

mamaoffourdc · 11/07/2019 12:39

Seth

BlueChampagne · 11/07/2019 12:43

I like Alistair, though would choose Alasdair spelling personally. It's Gaelic for Alexander, if that helps.

Lucas is nice but might be too similar-sounding to Isaac? How about Luke? Esp if your DP is a Star Wars fan??

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 11/07/2019 12:46

I'm less keen on Luke, personally - not sure why. Though that sort of connection would get it over the line with DP Grin

Or I just thought Isaac and Nolan sound nice

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 11/07/2019 13:29

I really like the name Caleb upthread but how would people pronounce it? I've heard Kah-lib, Kah-leb, Kay-leb and possibly others....

OP posts:
Icklepup · 11/07/2019 14:08

Kay-leb

Gummibeary · 11/07/2019 20:17

Isaac and Callum
Isaac and Quentin
Isaac and Reuben

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 11/07/2019 20:45

Hadn't thought of Quentin!

Reuben is a strong possibility, I really like it. We're not overly concerned about popularity but would prefer not to be one of four in the same class if possible.

I love Barnaby, and we both really like Dominic, but I'm concerned about alliteration as our surname begins with D and ends with a -y. What do people think about alliterative names? Would something like Dominic Donnelly (not the real surname but very similar sound) sound a bit ridiculous?

Rupert
Daniel
Christopher
Eben
Orson

Clownfish123 · 11/07/2019 21:00

Dominic is nice. I think Dominic Donnelly is a bit tongue twisty. Dominic Daley or Dominic Dilby would be fine, I like alliteration, sounds cool.

Fatkins · 11/07/2019 21:07

I like Dominic "Donnelly".

I knew a Dominic who got called Dom though which I really don't like.

I like Nathaniel too. It was on our list for DS.

We also had:

Rory
Sebastian
Fergus
Marcus
Felix

(Be warned that ds ended up with one of these, so I'll have a quiet cry into my glass of wine if you say you hate them all Wink).

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 11/07/2019 21:33

@Fatkins, a number of those were on my list last time! I love Felix but DP vetoed it, and I also really like Sebastian but ditto (he has no taste). Rory is lovely too. The only one of those I'm not so keen on is Marcus but that's due to an unfortunate association with a colleague.Grin

The "Donnelly" is the problem, it's not just the D, it's the Do sound at the beginning, so I think it's a bit too much. Which is a shame. But we will be going for two middle names so it could be the first middle name....
