Can we use Emily for full name for our millie? Not keen on Amelia or camilla etc and do like Emily so wondered if this would work as have read Millie can be short for Emily. But not sure if it’s generally recognised. (We would want a full name not just Millie on birth certificate) What’s your first impression if I said my daughter is called Emily but we call her Millie - ive thought about it too much now I can’t decide. Thanks hope that makes sense!

I have a friend who did this - no problems at all.

kittytiggy · 08/07/2019 20:14

That's fine. My best friend at secondary school was full name Emilia, but known as Millie x

AverageMummy · 08/07/2019 20:22

Can’t see the problem with this at all
Other options include Millicent & Emmeline

LoveB · 08/07/2019 20:26

I think that's absolutely fine. You could spell it Emilie too.

Or Amelie

FunnysInLaJardin · 08/07/2019 20:31

Yes, I know an Emilie nn Mille, although after nursery she insisted on being called Emilie Grin

Watersnail · 08/07/2019 20:32

Yes it would be fine IMO

Marmite27 · 08/07/2019 20:33

I liked Emily for the large amount of possible nicknames, including Millie and Lily.

Then my brother named his DD Millie, so that one’s out Hmm

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 08/07/2019 20:40

Yes - I’ve heard of Millie / Milly short for Emily before now.

My dd is Libby short for Elizabeth.*

We introduce her as Libby (not “Libby short for Elizabeth” just Libby) so everyone thinks it is perfectly reasonable that her name is Libby.

On my text announcement to friends when she was born I said something along the lines of “Elizabeth Jane Smith was born today at 3:55am. Libby is gorgeous and doing great.”

When I filled out nursery and school forms for her I wrote her name as Elizabeth (Libby) Smith.

It seems to have worked pretty well. Everyone seems happy that she is Libby. Every now and then people “discover” her real name (usually because I have called her Elizabeth as I really like Elizabeth as well) and are surprised. But usually in a “I didn’t know Libby was really Elizabeth. What a lovely name.” Way.

  • My daughter’s name is not Elizabeth / Libby.
