Brother for Eleanor

What does everyone think of the following names for a brother for Eleanor?

James
Edward
Jonathan

I keep yoyoing between James and Edward. Think Edward James sounds better than James Edward, but how often would the whole name be used anyway? DH not a huge fan of James.

Suggestions of similar classics, but not too popular welcome.

My brother is an Edward James! Love the name!

KTara · 07/07/2019 21:22

Also like Edward James.

MmeBufo · 07/07/2019 21:24

Eleanor and Edward are nice together but I'd not want the same initial for DC if I could avoid it.

Love George, but doesn’t go well with our surname (celebrity). Won’t say as outing.

Edward James was my original preference. Although my dad has said he doesn’t like Edward (I didn’t tell him it was on our list but he found out) although I’m sure he’d get over it!

I know Eleanor's with the following brothers - William
Christopher
Christian
Andrew
James

Sophronia · 07/07/2019 22:10

I like Jonathan best. Classic but less common/popular than James and Edward.

pegspurplecat · 07/07/2019 22:40

I was thinking James before I opened the thread.

PurpleDragons · 07/07/2019 22:45

I know an Eleanor & Jude :)

But I agree, Edward James flows much better.

GrumbleBumble · 07/07/2019 22:48

Eleanor was on my girls list, my boys list was
James, Edward, Matthew, Nathaniel, Alexander, Samuel and Joseph

Shadow1234 · 08/07/2019 00:41

James would be my first choice on your list

Marcus
Reuben
Theo
Nathaniel/Nathan
Ralph

Edward and James are nice. I'm not a fan of Jonathon. I know an Eleanor with a brother called Oliver, which I think is lovely. Some other suggestions:

Henry
Theodore
William
Flynn
Rory
Miles
Sebastian
Louis
Alastair
Charles
Jasper
Gabriel
Harry
Jack
Lennon
Orson
Peter
Vincent
Callum
Jerome
Ambrose
Dashiell
Elliot
Miles
Marlowe
Oscar
Rowan
Xavier

For you I'd go with Henry, Oliver or Sebastian. I love all three with Eleanor.

Robert

TheRedFox · 08/07/2019 06:43

Was also going to say Robert!

AverageMummy · 08/07/2019 07:42

Love Eleanor & James

SallyWD · 08/07/2019 09:12

Edward James is a wonderful name!

Youhavewonaprize · 08/07/2019 10:03

Thanks all. Looks like a pretty even split between Edward and James! Some food for thought with other suggestions. Samuel maybe has potential.

I prefer Edward over James, but not as a sibling name with Eleanor - you could potentially end up with and Ellie and Eddie which are a bit too similar to my ears.

Thomas
Vincent
Stanley
Peter
Douglas (Dougie)
Michael
Franklin

ButterflyOfFreedom · 08/07/2019 10:13

I know of siblings Eleanor & Edward. I personally wouldn't have siblings with names beginning with the same letter but that's probably just me!!

I also know Eleanor's with siblings called Jacob & Peter.

I like James from your list though the shortening of Jim/ Jimmy would put me off using it as first name.

Jonathan is nice though again not keen on Jonny.

My first thought was William.

Jumblejim · 08/07/2019 10:13

I like Eleanor and James.

Buyitinbamboo · 08/07/2019 11:50

I have an Elodie and expecting a boy and Edward is on my list too. I don't have a problem with siblings with the same initials but me and my brother have the same so maybe that's why! On my list is:

Edward
Michael
Alexander
Ethan

Goose4 · 08/07/2019 19:35

I really like Edward, but agree that Eddie and Ellie are maybe too similar (and pretty likely).
Also, Queen Eleanor was married to Edward I, which may or may not put you off...

MrsBertBibby · 08/07/2019 20:30

Robert! Fab name. Very underused.

marmiteandmarmalade · 08/07/2019 20:50

James is my favourite.
Or Toby?
