Beatrix!

Tell me about my family.

(Inspired/blatantly copied from another thread which I enjoyed!)

Reuben is already here, Beatrix is a possible name for his new sister. smile

(Also - do you like Beatrix? I adore the nickname Bea! But for some reason I don't like Beatrice as much.)

Also didn't mean to just type the word 'smile'. Was trying to give you one. Smile here you go! Grin

I like it.

When I named my 4 DC i tried to give them names they would be ok with as after all they have to live with it.

I chose classic but not "posh" names. Where I was brought up a Penelope would be ridiculed but a Oceana accepted Confused
Stupid I know but a fact where I lived.

shutupbignutbrownhare · 05/07/2019 20:10

Oooh I missed the other thread. Are you inviting us to guess what sort of a family you are based on those names? I'd LOVE that...

mamalovebird · 05/07/2019 20:10

The first name that popped into my head was Carmel.... no idea why but there you go! Or Millie was the next one.

Prefer Beatrice to Beatrix.

Theworldcouldbemymollusc · 05/07/2019 20:15

Verity or Corinne

dancemom · 05/07/2019 20:22

Martha or Anya or Sacha

Wherearemybloodykeys89 · 05/07/2019 20:23

shutupbignutbrownhare - yes! Another OP posted her son's name and her expected daughter's names, and asked posters to say what impressions they got of her family. It was quite a funny threat, and it made me curious about what sort of thing people would think on hearing my current name and potential name choice too! Grin

Love it. In good humour / light-hearted / no offence intended obvs.

You are a clinician within the NHS, nursing or AHP. You have a dream of one day quitting to open a coffee shop or work as a mindfulness and yoga instructor, but you are a pragmatic person at heart so it's not in your immediate future. You're called Rachel, Sarah, or Charlotte. You're white.

You've been married 6 years to James, Dan, or Will, who's in IT or middle management in a large engineering firm. You like his parents and they're generally kind to you, but you suspect they have a soft spot for his ex. James / Dan / Will is a very hands-on dad but still plays Xbox more than you'd like and it causes sme friction between you. You're pretty good at conflicting in a constructive way.

You guys do family meal times and sweet things together at weekends. You don't do much social media because the image-projecting of some of your friends pisses you off.

How did I do?!

Tillygetsit · 06/07/2019 00:12

Ha ha how can I top that?!
I think you are 27 with dark hair and your name is Helen. Oh no...that's my friend irl who has a Reuben Grin
Beatrix is a fabulous name.

Shadow1234 · 06/07/2019 03:46

Scarlett was the first name that I thought of.
I prefer Beatrice as it has a softer sound to Beatrix.

Wherearemybloodykeys89 · 06/07/2019 05:27

shutupbignutbrownhare - oh my gosh! I read that and laughed so much because you're scarily close!

I used to work for the NHS but retrained a few years ago and am now a teacher! I have plenty of dreams for little businesses in the future (and they're generally on the more hippy side) but realistically know I'll probably never get round to it because opening a business comes with risk and I'm not much of a risk taker!

As for my husband - That is scary! You got his name wrong, but he's a software engineer! He's a great dad and a great human but the only thing I'm a bit 🤔 about him is that's he's occasionally partial to a computer game. (He doesn't play often, but when he does it's headset and all shouting instructions to the other players - "Okay go go go!!! I'll cover you shoot!" Which I find a combination of hilarious, infuriating and confusing - he's a grown man! I don't get it!)

We do spend most of our free time together as a family and I don't do much social media - I have an Instagram account which is rarely used but I can't bring myself to delete it incase I lose the old pictures!

I guess Beatrix is a pretty good name for Reubens sister because it must suit our family for you to get so close! Either that or you need to start exploring the possibility that you have psychic abilities 🤔 The latter is more exciting!

Tillygetsit - I'm not your friend Helen Grin

For those who have offered other name choices - thank you! Still open to suggestion! I like Sacha but recently I've started to see it as more of a boys name for some reason. I considered it for a son. I also like Anya (spelt Ania but pronounced the same - at least we think it is) but it clashes with our surname which also begins with A. I don't like Carmel because it makes me think of caramel and now I want some. I LOVE Scarlett - decided this is what I'd name my daughter after the first time I read Gone with the Wind when I was young - and I've been suggesting it to my husband repeatedly hoping he will forget that it's been suggested a million times before and suddenly like it, but it's not working. He just wrinkles his nose and doesn't even dignify it with a response anymore!

I know everyone seems to prefer Beatrice but DH really likes the X in Beatrix - I think it's the thing he likes best about the name - and I feel like Beatrix suits us but for some reason Beatrice doesn't.

For those of you who prefer Beatrice - do you still like Beatrix, just less? Or do you only like Beatrice?

OP posts:
mamalovebird · 06/07/2019 08:23

I still like Beatrix, just prefer the way Beatrice looks written. My DD has a friend called Bea. She is a Beatrice but only ever called Bea. It's lovely.

MyInnerAlto · 06/07/2019 08:28

I prefer Beatrice because it's just less harsh. But I also think Reuben (top choice, was on our list for a ds3 who ended up being a dd) and Beatrix work well. Bea is lovely.

Sorry, but I really don't like Scarlett. (There are also quite a few of them around atm).

Icklepup · 06/07/2019 08:41

Violet

shutupbignutbrownhare · 06/07/2019 09:20

Lol, that's funny! Do me - I've got a Maisie and expecting someone who will possibly be Aidan.

I do like Beatrix I think...though vaguely reminiscent of that Harry Potter baddie....? How's it pronounced? Like three syllables sort of running into each other?

Petitprince · 06/07/2019 09:37

Love Beatrix. Gorgeous, quirky and s bit feisty. Plus lovely literary connotations with Beatrix Potter. She can Bea or Trixie. You wont hear loads in the playground and it is classic and timeless. Will she have a middle name too?

Wherearemybloodykeys89 · 07/07/2019 06:49

shutupbignutbrownhare - with a Maisie and an Aidan, I'd assume...

You have a professional job, my first thoughts were social work or maybe a solicitor? Maybe you've recently gone part time to look after the kids, you are considering going back to full time when they're older though.

I'd say you live in a semi-detached or terraced house - maybe in an older building (Edwardian? Victorian?) but which has been modernised. It's very nicely and thoughtfully decorated, and it's tidy but not in a stale show-home type of way - it still seems lived in and homely.

I think you have a dog and it will be a spank or some sort of sweet, small and scruffy cross-breed who will have a human name (Jack? Oscar?)

You drive a Volkswagen which you keep in good condition (not full of crisp packets and old receipts like mine!)

I get a similar sort of vibe from your husband that you got from mine - my first thought was a Dan! He might be a plumber, or maybe even something like a fireman! I get the feeling it's a stereotypically 'manly' job and he doesn't work in an office.

All that from two names! Grin

So... How did I do???

OP posts:
Wherearemybloodykeys89 · 07/07/2019 06:50

A spaniel! Not a spank! Haha

OP posts:
shutupbignutbrownhare · 07/07/2019 22:18

I LOVE that I project a life like that! You're not a million miles off with one of those jobs - though jacked it all in to be a SAHP which was the best decision ever - and with DH's name; although his job is about as far from a 'bloke' job that it's possible to get!

We don't have pets, but if I could choose a dog it would be a spank, I mean a spaniel, and maybe if I hadn't left work we could afford the gorgeous house you describe 😍😍😍.
