Gia or Piper?

basically just that please, which name do you prefer? (both go well with the middle name) ps this is for my sister who is pregnant with a little girl and has asked me to make this thread due to her not having a Mumsnet account! thank you!

Gia. Piper makes me think of Piper Alpha, which is sad, so I'd not use it.

Why would they get ripped to shreds named pia? Pia is a genuine name and there was 2 of them in my school and no one ever bullied them?

I don’t like either, but if I had to choose it would be Gia.

I’m baffled at the popularity of “Piper” these days, it’s so awful:
I just imagine a little girl playing huge bagpipes.

It doesn't even sound like a name.

I'd go for something that Georgia with Gia as a shot form.

Gia is lovely, short for Gianna.

Piper is Essex. One of those surname as first names that some people think sounds sophisticated.

I mispronounced Gia, I suspect I wouldn't be the only person to do so.
Piper is a fairly standard US name but as such probably not that well liked in the U.K.

I am massively dislike Piper. Don't understand why it is even a name.

Based on that I'd go for Gia, even better if it was short for something longer like Giovanna.

Piper is a really popular name Australia and US so clearly a lot of people don't reference it to a historical incident...

It wasn't an American or Australian disaster though, so may not have the same connotations there. And it was 1988, so not so 'historical' that people don't remember. Though of course not everyone does. Lots of people wouldn't want to name their daughter after a tragedy like that though.
