Too close to a friend's baby name??

Hello! Some help please!! I want to call my daughter Theodora but my friend's son is called Theodore.

Is this too close a name? I only see her once a year/ every 18 months and she lives in another part of the UK so it wouldn't be like they would be growing up together. Also he is 4 so there would also be a significant age gap between them.

Don't want to step on her toes and am not sure whether it would even be a problem as they're different genders so not even the same name...

Any advice/ thoughts??

due to not seeing her regularly, it's fine.

LlamaShark · 02/07/2019 11:05

I don't think it's a problem. I have a Theodora and wouldn't have a problem if it was the other way round.

Owlbert · 02/07/2019 11:07

I would say it's fine!

bridgetreilly · 02/07/2019 12:20

It's completely fine.

Peachbubble · 02/07/2019 13:54

It's fine

Fatkins · 02/07/2019 14:00

Completely fine!

Icklepup · 02/07/2019 14:16

It's fine!

BikeRunSki · 02/07/2019 14:17

Fine

DoYouNeedAWee · 02/07/2019 14:26

Totally fine but maybe mentioned it to her before hand just to gage her reaction

DC90 · 02/07/2019 14:50

I think it's fine. You aren't that close friends by the sound of it. You could always say to her as a courtesy but I doubt she would be bothered.

I’m not really big into the ‘owning names’ thing, but Theodora and Theodore are really about as close to the same name as you can get. In some ways, flattering...despite that not being inspiration etc.
But I can imagine some people might get a teeny bit miffed if I’m honest. I’d definitely feel it out with friend before you commit.

devilishlygood · 02/07/2019 17:04

Although I DO understand-both lovely names 😬😊

Poppkitty90 · 02/07/2019 19:08

I love Theodora!!
Fine to use it

Prettylittlelady · 02/07/2019 22:37

Totally fine. Don’t stress.

Fatkins · 03/07/2019 13:49

Theodore is such a common name. I think if he was called something really unusual and you used the female version, that might be a bit odd. But with Theodore, the chances are he is already going to be one of many boys his age with that name. I think your friend would be a bit strange to take the hump over it.

It's like being annoyed that your friend called her DD Olivia when you have an Oliver!

Except Theodora is obviously a lot less commonly used than Olivia. And less commonly used than Theodore come to mention it.

FartnissEverbeans · 03/07/2019 16:01

It’s fine. I’d do it

AverageMummy · 03/07/2019 16:10

Definitely fine especially as Theodore is quite a popular name so I doubt they expect to never meet anyone with a similar name

Rainbowknickers · 03/07/2019 16:33

I have a josh-my mate a jake-caused no problems growing up (we saw them about 3 times a week)
(But I would say something to her)
