Opinions on boys and girls names / middle name combos

I think me and my husband are starting to get somewhere with the baby name choices but as we've decided not to tell anyone until the baby arrives it would be great to get some outside opinions/suggestions!

The girl choice at the moment is Mila with Rose as the middle name. The only thing is our surname is Allen so wondering is there's too many vowels / 'l' sounds with the Mila Allen combo!? Annoyingly most the girls names we like end in an 'a' though.

Boys name we like the most is Benjamin/Ben. We liked Joseph for a middle name but would rather not have 'BJ' initials :D ...We also liked Richard middle name but that spells 'BRA'! Any other ideas for middle names for Benjamin Allen?

Mila Allen is very L heavy.
Mia Allen is nice. Do you like that.

I certainly wouldn't put a J middle name with a B surname, sorry.

Benjamin Arthur
Benjamin Francis
Benjamin Paul
Benjamin Thomas
Benjamin Louis

I’d still use Benjamin but would use Mila

Poppkitty90 · 01/07/2019 19:20

Sorry, would not use mila! ^^

Mila doesn't go with Allen, sorry! It's incredibly hard to say aloud. I feel your pain as I have had similar issues. But it still doesn't work. Also, Rose is such a common middle name at the moment... is there nothing more original you could choose?

Benjamin is nice with Allen. Pretty much any middle name except a J or an A name would be great. Edward? George? Henry? A family name?

diddlediddle · 01/07/2019 21:52

*sorry I meant R middle name not A name

Mila Allen is ok, but I'm not mad keen on the la ending with Al immediately after it for some reason. I also think Rose as a middle name is so ubiquitous that there is little point in using it, unless you are honouring a relative maybe?

Benjamin Richard Allen is fine imo. BJ Allen is not great.

I quite like the sort of symmetry of Mila Rose Allen but I will say there are loads of Mila Rose's right now if that bother's you.
I know two Mila Rose's and another two that are just Mila all under the age of 6.

Benjamin Richard Allen is brilliant.
If you need to initial stuff for school you can just use BA as most people won't know him by his middle name anyway.

Divgirl2 · 01/07/2019 22:30

Yeah, another vote for Benjamin and against Mila.

Mila Allen is a mouthful, and I don't really like Mila anyway. It reminds me of Milia.

What about Mia or Maya or even Maria (it's an oldie but a goodie). And instead of Rose (which is, let's face it, the new Anne) you could have a family name, or a place name (church you were married in? First home location?)

Expressedways · 01/07/2019 22:34

Use both the middle names you like? I think Benjamin Richard Joseph Allen sounds good.
Mila Allen is a bit of tongue twister, I’d pick something else. Mia is similar and works much better with your surname.

Fatkins · 01/07/2019 22:35

I love Maria! It's an underused classic! Mia Farrow is actually Maria on her BC I think, so you could shorten it to Mia if you liked.

Or how about Miriam? Miriam Allen is lovely. Could shorten to Mimi when she's little. Possibly Mia when she's older.

Ricekrispie22 · 02/07/2019 04:54

How about calling a girl Benjamina and having Mina for short?

MikeUniformMike · 02/07/2019 09:20

Mila Allen is too much of a mouthful and I'm not keen on Mila. Rose is a bit of a filler middle name, but it's pretty.
The 'r' that gets put in between a word ending in a and a word beginning with a will make it sound like Mealer Allen, so I would suggest you avoid a name ending in a.
