Elizabeth.
Hello. We are expecting our 3 child any day now and really stuck with names this time around.
We have a 6 years old called Emily Minnie Harpin and a 4 years old boy called Ben Harpin.
We are expecting a girl and my husband is keen on the name Elizabeth.... I think it’s a bit boring...? He loves Lizzie the character from pride and prejudice, and says that’s it’s just classic and strong... he says it’s so not cool that it’s actually cool 😬😳😂
What do you guys think?
I’m so lost.... I wanted a bit more of a cool/ deferent name as we have very traditional names for the siblings.
Any advice? Suggestions?
Thank you!!!

Elizabeth is gorgeous. I'm not fussed on Lizzie, though. I prefer Beth as nn.
That's just my personal preference, though.
Other ideas. Emily Ben and.
Violet. Daisy. Megan. Lydia. Victoria.
Nancy. Cassie. Florence.

SallyWD · 01/07/2019 12:01

Love the name! There are so many nicknames you can have too

SwimmerGirl40 · 01/07/2019 12:01

Elizabeth is a lovely, classic name. Shortened to Libby is nice. As is Beth.

Greyhound22 · 01/07/2019 12:01

I think it's lovely and classic and will go well with Emily and Ben. Nice set of names.

DearLady · 01/07/2019 12:04

I think Betty is a really cool name.

AverageMummy · 01/07/2019 12:04

My husband loved it but I just couldn't get behind it - I knew too many for it to feel current. Nothing wrong with it as a name though

SwimmerGirl40 · 01/07/2019 12:14

I’ve really gone off Lydia since watching the Handmaid’s Tale 😂 Love Nancy though - thanks, will put it in my list.

Lironlavie1 · 01/07/2019 12:36

Thank you! I love Nancy. Will suggest it to OH tonight xx

Thanks everyone. I’m warming up to the name. I like Betty as a short! Didn’t think about that. I also like Nancy...
what do you think about
Alma
Matilda
Anne/ Annie
Noa
?
Or is it better just to go with Elizabeth. I guess it does sound good with Emily and Ben... ahhhhh lost!

I'm expecting a girl and my ds wants to call her Elizabeth. I think in terms of derivatives it's a fantastic name as there are just so many and they are quite diverse. I imagine there's one you could like but I guess the problem is that your husband likes it for Lizzie. Would he compromise on a different shortening?

Rainbowshine · 01/07/2019 12:45

You’ll have two girls with E as an initial, that may be confusing on occasion (speaking from experience of sharing sibling initial).

SwimmerGirl40 · 01/07/2019 12:46

I like Alma ( a good one on the Handmaid’s Tale 😂). It’s quite unusual too. Matilda is lovely.

DuchessSybilVimes · 01/07/2019 12:47

Matilda is still mega popular which would put me off slightly.
Like Nancy quite a lot, have met a couple of new baby Nancys lately, it may be about to boom in popularity. Alma is ok. Noa just looks like a typo of Noah to me.

I really like Elizabeth.

Elizabeth or Nancy would be my vote!

SwimmerGirl40 · 01/07/2019 13:13

I love Arya too, beautiful name but very popular due to GOT and it will date terribly.

Fatkins · 01/07/2019 14:26

I have an Emma who was very nearly Elizabeth. Similar reason to your DH liking Lizzie.

I'm glad we went with Emma, as, in hindsight, I realise that I don't actually like the full name Elizabeth at all! I just like the shortenings. I especially love Eliza.

I'd probably still be tempted to use it one day though, if we ever had another girl though. There are just so many lovely shortening options. She'd have so many to pick from when she grows up.

CatkinToadflax · 01/07/2019 14:47

It’s awful - too long and formal. I should know! Wink

TurquoiseAndPurple · 01/07/2019 16:29

Oooh yikes... Really don't like Elizabeth, Betty, Nancy... I'll just go 😂😂😂

HeronLanyon · 01/07/2019 16:39

Elizabeth along with Catherine are the ultimate classic lovely names.

Shadow1234 · 01/07/2019 17:16

I prefer Eliza as a stand alone name to Elizabeth.

SwimmerGirl40 · 01/07/2019 17:27

Just a thought, if you like Alma, what about Aida? We considered it for DD.

bridgetreilly · 01/07/2019 17:29

Elizabeth is great. I'd be calling her Beth or Betsy for short, but you have so many options.

PinkieTuscadero · 01/07/2019 17:58

I've always disliked the name Elizabeth for some reason but it does have good shortenings so that is in its favour. Just to nitpick for a mo, Elizabeth Bennet was actually a Lizzy rather than a Lizzie although she gets referred to as Eliza from time to time too. I also like Beth and Libby.

I love Nancy and think it goes well with your others kids' names.

teenmum18 · 01/07/2019 18:01

I also like Betsy for a shortened version of Elizabeth
