Is it ridiculous to spell Louis, Louie?

Everyone I've told the name over text has remarked "Like Louie, or Lewis?" DH had a childhood best friend called Louis, pronounce Lewis so he doesn't like it spelt that way. It's the only name we agree on but we just can't agree on how to spell it. We both want to avoid pronunciation issues.

Louie is awful, it’s Louis. Spelling Lewis Louis sucks too.

I don't think there should be so many pronunciation issues since Prince Louis has been born. Might be wrong but people will more likely recognise it as the traditional spelling now surely. I have a friend with a son called Louie though so I like that spelling too and I did know a Lew-iss spelt Louis as a teenager but I always thought it was odd as Louis to me has always been Lou-ee (I had a friend and my dad loves Louis Armstrongs music so that's probably why.) xx

Louis is the best way to spell it. Louie looks yoounique and chavvy! Lewis is Loo-is like the department store John Lewis. Louis is a lovely name. Lewie would be a nightmare of constantly spelling it out!

Louie is not that yoonique anymore. It's become more popular than Louis.

A large part of the world pronounces Louis as Lou-is. I don't think Prince William's third child being named Louis is going to change that much Hmm

I know a Luey - just to add that one into the mix.

Pronounced Loo-e obviously.

@puppilongstrumpf perhaps not all over the world but certainly here in Britain, the place (unless I'm mistaken) OP lives, where one of the most famous children of this decade, our future Kings son, is also called Louis and spells his name traditionally and the way the OP likes may well help a little?!Hmm?! Just an opinion no need to throw your raised eyebrows around 😂
