DD2 is named Elspeth, doesn't suit Elsie so she is mostly called Elspie, however I think Betsy is a lovely nn. Could this work for Elspeth with it being a form of Elizabeth or would you find it weird?

What about ellie?

Fatkins · 25/06/2019 16:20

The two Elspeths I know are both called Ellie! They are both mid thirties.

I don't think Betsy is too out there though. You should here my family's nns! They aren't even close to our actual names Grin.

LazyLizzy · 25/06/2019 16:20

Bit weird. I'd stick to Elspeth, you chose it for a reason, not to change it.

icecreamsundae32 · 25/06/2019 16:21

Elsa? Ellie? Elle? Ella?
I guess you could get away with Betsy if you really wanted....

Fatkins · 25/06/2019 16:21

Elspeth is a lovely name though, I agree. I'd probably just call her Elspeth too!

That's how it should be.
OP nicknames are organic, not planned in advance.

Hear, not here I meant! Jeeze, this bloody phone Hmm. I blame it for all typos.

campion · 25/06/2019 16:32

You called her Elspeth but now want to call her something else?

There are many thousands of Ellie/Ellas out there but not many Elspeths.
It seems a shame to give her such a nice name then never use it!

BertrandRussell · 25/06/2019 16:32

If she’s called Elspie then that’s her name, i’m afraid, , until she’s old enough to object and choose her own name.

Agreed! Elspeth is so beautiful I wouldn’t want to shorten it!

ZebraKid71 · 25/06/2019 18:11

How old is she? Betsy sounds too different to both Elspeth and Elspie, I wouldn't want to confuse her. (plus I really dislike Betsy)

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/06/2019 19:33

She is 6 months. It was just a fleeting thought really

How can a 6 month old 'suit' Betsie but not Elsie?

Elspeth is lovely.

IVflytrap · 25/06/2019 22:03

Elsa? Maybe not. Beth? How about Elfie?

While I do think Betsy is quite removed from Elspeth, nicknames don't really have to bear any relation to your given name. If you really want to use it, go for it. People will get used to it.
