Sorry, this isn't for a baby! I need help...

My 3 year old keeps seeing a friend from nursery who he calls something like Seren, Sharon, Steven... I can't quite tell what he's saying.

Everything I say is wrong. DS is getting pissed off and I don't want to keep asking him.

To save me from phoning nursery, what could it be:

  • it begins with an S or a Sh or a St Sm Sp (DS isn't blending consonants very well)
  • 2 syllables
  • middle sound r w v l y
  • end sound n

It could be anything, really. I found some of the names my DC called their friends had very little resemblance to the actual name.

I would just phone the nursery!

NannaNoodleman · 21/06/2019 08:54

He says it's definitely just a S sound at the start. He sang "snake in the grass" at me just to be sure Confused

Not Soren but it does sound just like that when he says it.

Ask nursery. Failing that can your DS point out his friend? If so approach Parent and ask next time you drop off/pick up?

Sullivan?

NannaNoodleman · 21/06/2019 12:33

I'll ask at nursery next week (because he's probably just lost the will to keep talking to me) but he just said yes to Sullivan! THANK YOU

I never see the parents because we do pick up & drop off at different times. He always shouts and waves as we're leaving ... it's always a very emotional farewell!

Shirin?
Shafiq?
Seren?
Safarn?
Shimon?

My kids pronounced the ‘sh’ sound as ‘s’ for years, (ie: “sooos” instead of “shoes”) so it’s possible the child’s name begins with a “sh”.

Is it quite a multi-ethnic nursery as ours was? If so, quite a few boys names of Pakistani origin sometimes begin with a “sh” (shafiq, shakil etc) so perhaps one of these?

It’s so lovely and exciting when they start mentioning little friends!
