Adelaide is just stunning.

Blackcountrychik83 · 17/06/2019 14:27

I have a Georgia. She gets called George mainly and always has done. Now she's becoming a teen she will only answer to George. Do you like the shortened versions of the names?

meatandgreetretreat · 17/06/2019 14:29

@HarleyS, our surname is not that common, partly the reason why I don’t want a first name that’s too “out there” - maybe an argument against Adelaide, which generally seems popular on MN lately but not really on this thread, so far at least

I agree @YahBasic, didn’t see your post before my last one.
@Blackcountrychik83, George is great :)

Juliet or Matilda

PerfectPeony2 · 17/06/2019 14:43

You need to think of nicknames. Like Georgina- people will almost certainly try to shorten it to George or Georgie, or Gina.

From your list I like really like Matilda. Or Juliet.

OddshoesOddsocks · 17/06/2019 14:44

I have a Francesca who is Frankie, I also love Juliet and Theodora

meatandgreetretreat · 17/06/2019 14:45

The slightly shorter list:

Adelaide
Catherine
Eleanor
Elizabeth
Francesca
Georgia
Harriet
Juliet
Penelope

Thank you everyone for your comments so far.

Biased but Juliet, but shortened to Jet or Ettie

GrumpyOHara · 17/06/2019 14:55

Adelaide - quite nice
Camilla - prefer Camille
Catherine - quite like - love NN Kitty or Kit
Eleanor - lovely! Also love NN Nell or Norah
Elizabeth - boring but amazing NN options
Francesca - dislike - dated and mediocre
Georgia or Georgina - hmmmm. Okay but a bit boring
Harriet - nice, like NN Hattie too.
Josephine - for some reason this name sounds a bit wet to me
Juliet - I like this
Matilda - lovely but very popular
Penelope - okay but very popular
Theodora - Beautiful!
Victoria - dull. They say classics can't date but I think this classic has definitely dated. Also end up with NN Vickie which is dated AND horrible

notatwork · 17/06/2019 14:58

Adelaide: None of the NN are nice: Adey Laidy, Del??
Camilla: too Duchess of Cornwall
Eleanor
Elizabeth
Francesca
Georgia or Georgina
Harriet
Josephine
Juliet )
Matilda ) These 4 are very fashionable and don't fit well
Penelope ) with the rest of your list
Theodora )
Victoria
bold I like all (and have used 2 of) the names in bold but have grouped them together as they are all feminine versions of originally male names.
Of the others, Elizabeth is very popular (very versatile), Eleanor is lovely (I'd spell it Elinor but both are 'normal') and Victoria is always in the top 100 but not too near the top.
I think your long list is great and apart from the 'odd 4' any would make a lovely name.

monsieurmarius · 17/06/2019 15:21

Adelaide no
Camilla ok
Catherine no
Eleanor yes
Elizabeth no
Francesca no
Georgia or Georgina love Georgia
Harriet no
Josephine no
Juliet yes
Matilda yes
Penelope yes
Theodora ok
Victoria ok

You've got some beautiful timeless classics here but make sure you like the nicknames too; Elizabeth and Victoria rarely stay that way for long!

Millypolly90 · 17/06/2019 16:16

Theodora - or Thea

AverageMummy · 17/06/2019 18:06

I LOVE your list - don’t think I’ve ever been able to say that !

Adelaide - nice
Camilla - beautiful as is Camille
Catherine - nice
Eleanor - love this
Elizabeth - particularly like Libby & Beth
Francesca - ok
Georgia or Georgina - both nice although Georgina feels more classic, also love Georgiana which is very Jane Austen
Harriet - love Hattie
Josephine - super classy name
Juliet - love

Matilda - love

Penelope - love
Theodora - love (as long as you don’t mind it being quite posh)
Victoria - ok

CalamityJess · 17/06/2019 18:37

Looooove Theodora!

I also like Matilda, Eleanor, Elizabeth and Juliet.

piperk · 17/06/2019 21:10

Francesca ... gorgeous name x

diddlediddle · 17/06/2019 22:29

Sad to see my favourite Josephine off the list! I like unisex nicknames so I'd like Jo for short. A great list though.

Adelaide - like but no good nickname.

Catherine - middle name territory

Eleanor - beautiful

Elizabeth - middle name

Francesca - lovely. Frankie is great

Georgia - also lovely - George

Harriet - would rule out if surname starts with T, will run together poorly

Juliet - same issue

Penelope - nice, like Penny

Bellatrix14 · 17/06/2019 22:38

From your new shortened short list I like Juliet, Penelope and Catherine the best, I think they’re lovely. I’m not massively keen on Penny though, which is the only thing that puts me off Penelope.

I love Theodora! Really not keen on Josephine though, but I always seem to be in the minority.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 17/06/2019 22:38

Adelaide or Georgia.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 17/06/2019 22:39

Oh and Elizabeth too!

AverageMummy · 17/06/2019 22:40

@notatwork are you saying you dislike names for girls that originate from boys names? I’d guess Victoria comes from Victor & Juliet from Julius too

Stravapalava · 17/06/2019 22:44

Adelaide - love this
Catherine - nice but meh
Eleanor - love
Elizabeth - nice but meh
Francesca - nice but meh
Georgia - nice, but popular
Harriet - love
Juliet - not in a month of Sundays
Penelope - no

OldAndWornOut · 17/06/2019 22:47

Theodora, Eleanor and Georgia for me.
They're lovely.

Carpetburns · 17/06/2019 22:59

Lovely names, OP. I loved Harriet (nn Hattie) when I was pregnant but DH wasn't so keen.
