Do you honestly want your children to be bullied at school? Cause it sounds like you do, it's not cool it's a bit sad honestly it's actually cultural appropriation. Absolutely disgusting.

xxx, Karen.

Jeez Karen...tough morning?

I think it's fine, people use names from all over the world and it's fine. Use a name you love Smile

PunkAssMoFo · 13/06/2019 10:54

Yes, think of all those ancient Greeks that you’ll be offending!

One of the results of a global culture is appreciation (not appropriation) of names and practices from other parts of the world. If done sensitively it’s fine and certainly not disgusting Hmm

It depends on the name. I know of a few little girls called Athena, iris is very popular and names like Artemis could work. Hephaestus....., doesn’t cross cultures so easily.

@TheGoodTheBadAndTheKaren 🤣🤣

There are loads of threads on MN about Greek gods names for babies. It's definitely fine. Obviously some are nicer than others!

Seriously people sometimes!

Greek mythology names are great OP.

Some I like:

Athena,
Perseophone,
Hera,
Gaia
Clio,
Aphrodite
Thalia

All beautiful names.

Willowkoko · 13/06/2019 11:56

Met plenty of children with Greek mythological names, not crazy unique. I advice you to chose ones that are easy to spell for the child’s sake.

Peachbubble · 13/06/2019 14:27

Absolutely fine, there are some lovely names to choose from

Honeyplop · 13/06/2019 15:15

Just exactly what culture do you think this is appropriating TheGoodTheBadAndTheKaren? Greeks? Gods? Many many names are derived from Latin which is derived from a combination of the Greek and Etruscan alphabet, therefore with your logic most common names are cultural appropriation?

OP Greek mythology names are fab. Don't let some twat on the internet tell you otherwise.

Owlbert · 13/06/2019 18:41

Both my children have Greek names, they both get lovely comments (1 I think is more marmite than the other) but I love them and they really suit them. Choose names you love and don't tell anyone in real life until you have named them otherwise people may try to change your mind!

Wiseoldnannyplum · 13/06/2019 20:43

Go for it, some beautiful old Greek names

Tillygetsit · 13/06/2019 22:40

So any biblical name is cultural appropriation? Jeez Karen get a life! Greek names are beautiful OP. Fill your boots!

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 13/06/2019 23:20

No problem at all. There are some beautiful names to choose from.
