Hey,

We have named our baby but after 8 weeks are not sure on the name now!!

Has anyone experienced this before?

Thanks for your advice

What is the name? I prefer one of my child's name over the other.

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 18:56

Thanks for the reply her name is Ayla

Noooo that's my first choice name and I've literally never seen it mentioned on here (or anywhere!) keep it!!! :)

Tommysmummy88 · 10/06/2019 19:07

Shortened it would be Ayl which is basically Ale.
I’m not keen on it sorry OP but assuming you want honest thoughts...it’s a bit ‘chavvy’ to me BUT saying that, that’s probably because I know someone with that name which has given me the negative view of it.
I think a lot of people worry after a few weeks that they’ve got the wrong name because it’s a massive commitment but you might warm to it again!

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 19:08

Ha! Yeah we wanted something unique, however not sure it suits her and the other name we had was Ellis now thinking that suits her better 🙈

Thanks it’s honest so all good!

Not sure if a different spelling would make a difference but I plan to spell it Aila. Ultimately though if you aren't feeling it, don't be afraid to change it :)

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 19:18

We were going to spell it Aila originally too, however thought people would pronounce it like Isla!! It’s a min-field when it comes to babies names!!

Dh doesn't like our youngest child's name 🤦🏻‍♀️ she's 2.5 and he still can't get used to it. It's his fault though, he kept vetoing all the names I flung out there. He's never suggested that we change it though he's just gone with the flow. If it's bothering you change it she's still only tiny.

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 19:30

I’m thinking about approaching it, however they like the name! So not sure I want to rock the boat!

We changed both our DC names in the first year as you can reregister up to 12 months. In both cases we changed their middle names to something else thinking if we really hated their original first names we (or they!) could go by their middle names when they were older. Fwiw they both still go by the original names and really suit them now (4&6yrs)!

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 19:46

Okay great thank, I wasn’t sure what the parameters were for changing them. Think it would be the embarrassment of telling people if we changed the name!

My sister is called Ellis Grin it's a great name!

Matleavemadam · 10/06/2019 21:25

I thought Ayla was Isla with a different spelling? How do you pronounce it?

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 21:37

Yeah I worried about that too! It’s pronounced like you would say Kayla without the K!

Owlbert · 10/06/2019 21:38

My daughter has a friend called Ayla, I think it's lovely and the little girl suits it. I know at least 5 children called Ellis but all are boys.

incywincyspiders · 10/06/2019 21:56

Yep what Ricey said, Aila like Kayla!

Alyx80 · 10/06/2019 22:26

Ellis is generally used as a boys name so I’d stick with Ayla x

Matleavemadam · 10/06/2019 22:44

Ayla is nice, even though I didn't know it was pronounced that way.
My daughter has a name that people mishear (think Anna, they hear Hannah for eg) and I had a bit of a wobble early on thinking should we have just called her Hannah but we stuck with it and am glad now as she really suits it. If I were you I would give yourself longer than 8 weeks and then if you still want to change it just go for it and don't worry what anyone else thinks

Ricey1979 · 10/06/2019 23:01

Thanks for the feedback and advice so far everyone, I wish I knew this was available before choices were made.
