Stuck for a boy's name - would love opinions on these!

I'm only 11+3 but it's okay to daydream and plan ahead, right? :-)

We're sorted for a girl's name, but I can't find a boy's name that I truly love. We both like the following:

Keir
Cillian
Rory
Laurie

What do you all think? Any front runners or even other suggestions along these lines?

Love Kier.
Like Rory and Laurie but Lawrence on the birth certificate. Not keen on Cillian- like the sound but anything that a lot of people won’t be sure how to pronounce is a no from me.

Penny4Thoughts · 09/06/2019 12:22

Love Rory
Keir is quite nice & unusual (& great political association)
Don’t like Cillian
Laurie is lovely but I’d prob do as nickname for Laurence

ryanreynolds · 09/06/2019 12:22

What about Rowan? Seems to have a similar vibe? I love it but vetoed by DH!

celtiethree · 09/06/2019 12:23

Keir and Cillian are great.

RedPandaFluff · 09/06/2019 12:26

I really like Rowan, @ryanreynolds, but a close friend's daughter was given that name! I love that it's unisex.

See, I'm not sure about Laurence/Lawrence but I like Laurie - although I do have misgivings that it's a bit too much like Laura.

Love Keir and Rory. Not so keen on Laurie but have no objections to the name.

Cillian looks great written down but I hear "kill" and cant get past that I'm afraid.

Aspieteach · 09/06/2019 12:33

I like all of them. Laurie does sound similar to Laura but I wouldn't have made the association if you hadn't pointed it out. I think of it as a fairly traditional Scottish boy's name. Also reminds me of Laurie Lee and Laurie Taylor.

TatianaLarina · 09/06/2019 12:43

Rory and Lawrence. (Laurence is a girls name in France).

redredrobins · 09/06/2019 13:10

How about Rhodry?

I like Rory and Keir, you could use Gregory and call him Rory.

maimainomai · 09/06/2019 13:15

Keir: I really like this
Cillian: is that the original form of Killian? I like it.
Rory: Makes me think of Gilmore girls/Lorelei. I didn't know that it was a boy's name tbh.
Laurie: like Laurel and Hardie? I think I like it. But it could also be short for Laura/Lauren/Laurel etc...

(I'm. It from the UK. Maybe that's why I'm so surprised by Laurie.)

Paultrybudget · 09/06/2019 13:20

Dylan
Angus
Isaac
Evan
Nathaniel
Otis
Henry
Miles
Eric
Theo
Leo
Toby
Vincent
Liam
Sid
Joel
Frederick
Oscar
Kit/Christopher

RedPandaFluff · 09/06/2019 13:27

I think I'm swaying towards Keir . . .

I'm not sure which is the original, @maimainomai - I've only ever seen it spelled Cillian. I think I do prefer it with a C.

I like a couple from your list, @Paultrybudget - DH really likes Leo but it's pretty popular, isn't it? Also Otis and Isaac.

The only thing about Keir is that my brain immediately goes "royale" :-D

Sooverthemill · 09/06/2019 13:43

I had an uncle Laurie. I like it

PotatoCity · 09/06/2019 13:51

I like Rory a lot, and Keir is ok.

Laurie is way too much of a nickname and not a proper name to me, and Cillian I also just see “kill”

sunnyshines · 09/06/2019 14:38

I like Cillian and Lawrence.

Penny4Thoughts · 09/06/2019 14:42

Keir just says Hardie to me which is ace

Laurie didn’t make me think of Laura but then Laura is very out of fashion now so you won’t meet many kids called Laura

sunnyshines · 09/06/2019 14:51

Laurie looks and sounds like a girls name.

For a boy, Lawrence is more suitable.

1066vegan · 09/06/2019 16:54

To me, it's definitely a boy's name. It's only reading other posts in this thread that have reminded me that it's also used for girls. Is that more of a US thing? I haven't come across it as a girl's name in the UK.

Penny4Thoughts · 09/06/2019 17:03

@Sunnyshines are you US? I can’t imagine anyone thinking it anything but a boys name in the U.K.

Fulltimemummy85 · 09/06/2019 17:25

Love Rory, it would be on my list but I have a Rosie x

Peachbubble · 09/06/2019 18:07

I like Rory the best

sunnyshines · 09/06/2019 18:44

No, I'm uk based, but the Laurie I know is American. So yes, maybe it's a girls name only in the US.

However Laurence is a feminine name in France, the male version is Laurent.

autumnkate · 09/06/2019 19:43

Cillian is the correct Irish spelling

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2019 19:46

Keir, all the way. Great name!
