Eden - is it too 'feminine'?

DP and I both loved the name Eden for a boy (I've loved it for years), but have had several comments that it's a girls name and that a boy would be made fun of with it.

Opinions? Would it cause confusion/bullying? It is a unisex name.

I’d think you were Chelsea fans too

spanishwife · 05/06/2019 13:34

Works for both and is lovely!

Lots of names don't give away the gender, and I actually think this is a good thing.
Think of Ashleigh, or Jo or Frances (unless written down)

My impression is that it’s more commonly a female name in the U.K, but without looking at the stats I don’t know.

The other problem is accents - with an estuary accent it comes out Aydern, so I think it depends where you live.

BertrandRussell · 05/06/2019 14:01

Nearly 4 times as many girls than boys.

KatherineJaneway · 05/06/2019 14:03

To me it is female name, I would give it to a boy as I wouldn't want them bullied.

DramaAlpaca · 05/06/2019 14:08

I consider it a girls' name.

Quintella · 05/06/2019 14:10

I named my Dd Eden after first hearing the name in Ruth Rendell's A Dark Adapted Eye, which was on TV when i was a teenager.

Oh I loved that book and adaptation! Haven't read it in 20 years....but didn't things ends badly for all characters?

Pinkvoid · 05/06/2019 17:15

It is a boys name imo, the only Eden I have met was male.

Newmumma83 · 05/06/2019 17:16

My mate has a little boy called Eden and it really suits him ... go for it x x

Jaspermcsween · 05/06/2019 17:18

I think it’s a bit porny

Crushedvelvetcouch · 05/06/2019 17:20

Porny GrinGrinGrin

taylorlynn · 05/06/2019 17:49

I know more boy Eden then girls

anothernotherone · 05/06/2019 17:56

I know it can be a boy's name but the only Eden I know is a woman in her 50s.

I have a unisex name and found it really embarrassing as a tenager and somewhat annoying in my 20s, I guess it helped me develop a thick skin but having lived 45 years with a unisex name I am not a fan of them at all and didn't give any of my children unisex names.

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/06/2019 17:58

It’s a girls name like Tracey that used to be a boys.

Greyhound22 · 05/06/2019 19:43

I know a little girl called Eden and I was telling my DM about her and she presumed I meant a boy so I guess it's both.

juliainthedeepwater · 05/06/2019 20:00

The only Eden I know is a boy - I think from the responses on here you can tell it's a genuinely unisex name.

TheHammock · 05/06/2019 20:03

I love it for a boy.

I like names like Jem, kit and Kim for boys though, so maybe that rules out my vote!

holdupwaitamin · 05/06/2019 20:14

I know one girl Eden and three boy Edens. The boys are all French and pronounced more like "edden" whereas the girls name is pronounced like the garden of Eden ...

To me, a boy's name.

Penny4Thoughts · 05/06/2019 20:18

Porny ????

Littleheart5 · 05/06/2019 20:30

I know a little boy whose parents had this dilemma, they went ahead with it anyway. He’s now 4 and in Montessori school. He never had a comment about it until two of his little friends have sisters called Eden, and the “Eden has a girl’s name, hahah” started. He’s an able little fellow and not too bothered but just so you know!

TurquoiseAndPurple · 05/06/2019 20:37

I know one of each too! Love it for either ❤️

Bezalelle · 05/06/2019 23:21

Edan is nice for a boy.

Jossina · 05/06/2019 23:22

I think it's fine. Screw closeminded misogynists.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 06/06/2019 06:31

I think of it as very much a girls name.

CharDeeMacDennis · 06/06/2019 08:10

I loved that book and adaptation! Haven't read it in 20 years....but didn't things ends badly for all characters?

Yes, very much so! I just took the name, rather than actually naming her "after" the unfortunate character Grin
