Ive already got a little boy called Noah H Surname.

Im a little bit stuck on name for Noah's little brother or sister. The list so far:

Matilda Rose (Matilda was the name I loved when I had Noah but people tried to put me off and many people on here comment on popularity, however this doesn't bother me)

Sofia Rose (New addition to list but not sure if I love it)

Jacob (Boys name I loved when I had Noah but was put off the name because of the meaning. Would I regret not using?!)

Finlay (A new addition to the list - maybe a like but don't love sort of a name)

Archie (Archie after a man who survived titanic and britannic sinking, very strong name and very strong person. Especially as I love everything titanic).

Which ones go best and which ones do you like/dislike and why?

Many thanks.

Matilda for a girl, Jacob for a boy.

Finlay is suddenly everywhere (unless it's just in my hometown, but all 4 girls I know from home who have had baby boys this year have called them Finley/Finlay!) and it's sudden surge in popularity makes me think it will seem a bit dated and naff in a few years.

Archie is often considered a bit 'chavvy' on this site and other baby naming sites, and I think the fact that Prince Harry has just used it won't change this. It's also a bit cutesy.

Jacob is classic and strong and nice for all ages. It goes very well with Noah.

Sofia and Jacob

Love Matilda Rose. Beautiful name and sounds good with Noah. Prefer Jacob to Archie and Finlay as it's less likely to become dated.

Divgirl2 · 04/06/2019 12:39

If you're not bothered about popularity then I'd go for Matilda Rose out of what you've picked (although Matilda Violet is also nice - Violet after Violet Jessop who survived the sinkings of Titanic and Britannic, and was also aboard the Olympic when it crashed in 1911).

I think Archie and Finlay will date so for that reason I'd go for Jacob. Could nickname him Jack - after Jack Thayer (Titanic survivor who ended up in the water and managed to climb aboard an upturned boat, he was only a teenager).

Isaac?

Divgirl2 Wow you post really warmed my heart! The thought you put into it was greatly appreciated. I had thought of Violet after Violet Jessop, so think I will definitely change to Matilda Violet. Thank you.
Was maybe thinking Jacob Thomas. Thomas after Thomas Andrews who designed titanic?

Before I opened the thread I thought Jacob so that definitely gets my vote for a boy! I think if you love Matilda go for it, Matilda Rose is a lovely name.

Divgirl2 · 04/06/2019 12:57

Jacob Thomas is what I was thinking! That or Jacob Charles/Charles Jacob. Charles after Charles Lightoller (who helped evacuate Titanic, survived on top of an upturned boat, then went on to serve in WW1, retired then helped evacuate Dunkirk in WW2).

My DC's friends called Noah both have brothers called Oliver. One has another brother called Zac and the other has two sisters called Violet and Ivy.

redwoodmazza · 04/06/2019 14:01

Great idea from Divgirl2 to include Violet.

Zoeputthatdown · 04/06/2019 14:12

Jacob Arthur?
Captain Arthur Henry Rostron was in command of The Carpathia, the only ship to reach survivors, 705 were taken aboard.

Shadow1234 · 04/06/2019 16:47

Before I even opened your post, the first name I thought of to go with Noah was Violet Then I read your list and saw Matilda, which I think is a beautiful name and goes really well with Noah. Then Matilda Violet was suggested, which really stood out as a great name, so that would be my choice.

Jacob would be my pick from your boys list.

Sofia
Archie

Matilda is a nice name if that's what you'd use, but I hate Mattie or Tilly.

Malyshek · 06/06/2019 19:03

Matilda is cute, I like Mattie as a nickname. If you don't mind the popularity, go for it (and tell people who try to "put you off a name" to go hang themselves... Giving opinions is fine but you don't try to persuade or dissuade parents when they are naming their baby !)

Regarding boy's names, I am very ignorant about anything titanic. Finlay is the more original of the names you listed. He'll probably get called Fin a lot, which sounds fine to me. Jacob is okay, not super original but sounds good enough, though I don't think people would call him Jack, unless you correct them all the time ; Jake is more likely.

As for Archie, everyone will assume a reference to the royal baby, so if you go for that you'll have to be ready for this. Also, I am personally not fond of the nickname-as-a-name trend ; I'd call him Archibald on the certificate, even if he's always called Archie in everyday life.

I like Matilda.
as for the boy names I like Finlay, but partly because it's more original, which is not a criteria that interests you. Sounds to me like younre partial to Archie ; if so you should go for it !

Thank you everyone! I think we have settled on Matilda Violet (after Violet Jessop a nurse on titanic) and Jacob Thomas (after Thomas Andrews who designed the titanic). A special thank you goes to Divgirl2!! For her amazing help and knowledge :-)

Lovely choice of names 💕

3soontobe5 · 06/06/2019 21:20

I have a Noah and Finley, lots of people complement their names. My favourite girls name on your list is Sofia. I also have a daughter called Blair which is uncommon and a bit different.
