We’re naming our baby girl Ada but I just wanted to check how people would generally pronounce it as I have read some variations online. Also any middle name suggestions are very welcome! Considering the following but open to any! She will have a double barrel surname with two and one syllables:

Ada Mabel
Ada Celeste
Ada Florence
Ada Violet

I’ve only ever heard the pronunciation ay-da in the U.K.

Ladymoneypenny · 01/06/2019 14:27

Only ever heard ‘aid-a’

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/06/2019 14:27

I say Ay-da - so say the A like the letter name not the sound.

I have to pick Mabel because I love it

MrsEricBana · 01/06/2019 14:30

Aid-a
Love it. I least like Mabel as a middle name as it starts to take Ada down an Edna route for me. Love Violet and Celeste.

mollibu · 01/06/2019 14:36

I have an Ada, however we spelled it Ayda as we preferred it. Even though it isn't the usual way of spelling for our pronunciation. Grin

We pronounce her name A-duh.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 01/06/2019 14:43

Ada is cute! I like it with Celeste, violet and Florence

QueenBumble · 01/06/2019 15:15

Only ever heard Ay der - like the letter A

Love the name

stellarfox · 01/06/2019 15:19

Fab thank you, we are pronouncing it the same!

I love Ada, it was top of my list for this baby but dh has vetoed it. I'm gutted.

Out of your middle names my favourite is Ada Florence.

Sophronia · 01/06/2019 19:07

Ay-da

Love Ada Celeste or Ada Florence.

WoollyMummoth · 01/06/2019 19:11

It’s pronounced Aid-a. It’s my nan’s name.

Penny4Thoughts · 01/06/2019 19:12

Same as everyone else - love the name

Tootyfrooty35 · 01/06/2019 19:27

We have an Ayda so biased but it's such beautiful name ❤️ you have good taste!
We pronounce it Ay - duh, and Ada would be the same.
How about
Ada Orella
Ada Ophelia
Ada Iris
Ada Elodie
Ada Clementine

FairfaxAikman · 01/06/2019 19:33

Ada was on my list but DH vetoed it and we had a DS. Pronounced Ay-da.
Violet was also on my list, so I like Ada Violet.

userabcname · 01/06/2019 19:34

Ada Celeste - beautiful name

Twisique · 01/06/2019 19:45

Ada Elizabeth

LikeARedBalloon · 01/06/2019 19:54

Love this name ❤ Pronounced A-dur

VeniVidiViciTwice · 01/06/2019 19:57

Love this name either with violet or Florence.

This was on my list for dd2 (after Ada Lovelace) but DH vetoed it.

foxtiger · 01/06/2019 21:17

Ay-da for me too. I really like it as a collection of sounds, but wouldn't have used it myself because of an association with a rather unpleasant person in my extended family, so I'd be delighted if someone without that issue got to use it! I like Ada Celeste and Ada Florence best from your list.

Pinkvoid · 02/06/2019 11:20

Aid-a for me. There’s a song named Ada by The National, one of my favourite songs and bands. I love the name and would use it if I had another child.

I like Ada Florence best.

MrsMiggins37 · 02/06/2019 11:24

Ay-da

The middle names are all fine except Mabel which sounds very clunky IMO

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/06/2019 08:07

Ada Florence

CaptainCabinets · 03/06/2019 23:10

I love Ada!

My great-great-grandmother’s (I know Blush) name was Adelaide and I’ve always fancied that, with Ada as a nickname.

CaptainCabinets · 03/06/2019 23:11

To answer your actual question, I like Ada Florence.

CaptainCabinets · 03/06/2019 23:16

Other combinations I like:

Ada Josephine
Ada Rosemary
Ada Georgina
Ada Penelope
Ada Simone
Ada Juliet
Ada Caroline
