Boy name help!

Hi everyone! We already have 2 DC - one is Reuben and the other name is a similar style to this name - sort of biblical, old feel. (feel like naming both would be too outing, and I didn't care about that until I realised that outing yourself seems to be a really bad thing on here so it's made me paranoid 😂)

We have pretty much settled on Juniper for a girl but we are still struggling with boys names! Some we like are:

Kit - like this but don't like Christopher as it might get shortened to Chris. Is Kit alone a little insubstantial?
Jude - love this but couldn't use Juniper in the future if we had a Jude
Jonah - like this - I think it has a cool, fresh feel and not too common
Flynn - I like this but is it too close to the now-everywhere Finn?
Ivor - beloved grandfather's name, but am k setting him up for a lifetime of jokes?
Sonny - too American? Can you imagine a grown man with this name?
Seth - apparently there's siblings in a book/TV show called Cold Comfort Farm called Reuben and Seth and apparently this is a bad thing, although I don't know why, having not read or seen it. Is it well-known enough to be an issue?
Jago - too posh?
Louis - too boring?
Rory - two 'r' names - will DC3 feel left out? Kids are weird about stuff like that!

Help please!

I think Kit is fine if you also have a long or unusual last name.

I like Louis a lot.

I don’t know anyone I know whose initial isn’t the same as siblings who feels left out.

I think Ivan is much much nicer than Ivor and would get round the joke thing.

I really don’t like Sonny.

Trying to think of other suggestions but you have quite an eclectic list!

Silas, Alex, Noah, Adam, Austin, Elias, jago.

I love Juniper.

Jossina · 31/05/2019 05:35

Kit - only if you have a really long surname
Jude - not bad, great song
Jonah - good
Flynn - a nice adventurer, fun name
Ivor - nice, popular in some sets
Sonny - not a name, a nickname for Juniors.
Seth - read the book but didn't remember the brothers, nice name
Jago - nice, charming
Louis - royals stole it first lol
Rory - say all three names out loud as if you're calling them, but I doubt non R will care

How about Asher, Aaron, Cyrus, Boaz, Daniel, Felix, Jonas, Silas, Tobin

goldensugar2 · 31/05/2019 07:17

Reuben and Ivor!

How about
Nathan
Quentin
Vincent

imsorryiasked · 31/05/2019 07:21

Ivor & Jonah are lovely.
Or how about Sawyer?

Petalflowers · 31/05/2019 07:29

Jonah and Seth would go lovely with Reuben and sibling.

userabcname · 31/05/2019 07:34

I like Jonah or Jago. Kit is nice too.

daisypond · 31/05/2019 07:41

Kit - nice but too insubstantial. Only as a shortening for Christopher.
Jude - great. Juniper is actually a male name. There’s a Middle Ages St Juniper. Could you use this instead for a boy?
Jonah - no, terrible. It’s a word in the dictionary meaning a jinx, bringer of bad luck.
Flynn - no, wannabe cool, like Finn.
Ivor - yes, you’ve got a good reason for using it.
Sonny - No, it’s not a name. Demeaning.
Seth - I would think Cold Comfort Farm alongside Seth. It would be a bit of a joke.
Jago - OK
Louis - great
Rory - I’d avoid having siblings with the same initial letter but it is a great name.

goldensugar2 · 31/05/2019 07:44

Christopher is lovely. But Kit? As in sports kit? Or kitty cat? I'm not keen.

lucymegan · 31/05/2019 07:56

Ivor is my favourite from your list.

Disappearedtothe80s · 31/05/2019 07:57

Kit - not keen on either Kit or Christopher. I think 'football kit' and Christopher seems to dated.
Jude - it's a bit short for my liking.
Jonah - too biblical for me.
Flynn - really nice name, much better than Finn imo.
Ivor - not a fan
Sonny - I do like it but yeah its probably more a dog's name and not a grown man.
Seth - hmmm, neutral
Jago - really like this, I knew one years ago!
Louis - I kind of agree its boring, too royal, plus you have the pronunciation issues (Lewis vs Louie)
Rory - love, love, love.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 31/05/2019 08:47

daisypond - out of curiosity, have you mentioned Cold Comfort Farm before? The only way I have heard of it is when a poster commented about it on another thread about Reuben and Seth, and I'm just wondering if it was you who mentioned it before too, or if it's really that well known of a reference and it was someone else.

Although saying that, i live and work in Asia so it wouldn't really be a problem here either way.

Hmmmm. So unsure!

Thanks for the comments so far! Some good suggestions too!

No, I don’t think I’ve mentioned Cold Comfort Farm before. It’s quite a comedic classic so a lot of people would know it. But of course lots of people equally might not know it at all.

LarkDescending · 31/05/2019 09:27

Jonah seems a great fit to your style (I like Jonas even more).

Ditto Seth, though I haven’t read Cold Comfort Farm.

Isaac sprang to mind, in case you haven’t already used it?

jojojowo · 31/05/2019 13:37

Kit - ok
Jude - like
Jonah - not keen personally but still and alright name
Flynn- cool
Ivor - nice but prefer Ivan as pp suggested
Sonny - used to hate it but now actually really like it after watching SEAL Team and seeing it being used by a grown man.
Jago- dislike
Louis - really dislike
Rory - like

bridgetreilly · 31/05/2019 14:44

If you had a Seth and a Reuben I would immediately think Cold Comfort Farm and laugh quite a lot at that.

I love Ivor. MUCH nicer than Ivan.

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 31/05/2019 15:15

Cold Comfort Farm- so no lol

Headboardbanging · 31/05/2019 17:56

I absolutely love Jago

Proseccofuelled · 31/05/2019 21:44

I was going to suggest using a different full name for Kit but K is an exceptionally difficult initial - I can’t really think of anything except Kenneth !

Proseccofuelled · 31/05/2019 21:51

Kit - like as a nickname
Jude - quite like this

Jonah - not bad

Flynn - even top names are less than 1% of babies so Finn can’t be everywhere ???

Ivor - I wouldn’t use this
Sonny - hate sorry
Seth - never heard of the show you’re referring to - love the name Seth
Jago - Vair po !
Louis - no way - lovely name
Rory - love it & think it’s fine with Reuben

CaitlinEJ · 31/05/2019 22:38

Kit - never heard before but I think it’s cute!
Jude - absolutely love, my friend had a baby called Jude last week, adorable name!
Jonah- I think this is good as it doesn’t really seem to age and is name I can see a baby being called as well as a middle-aged man
Flynn - so cute!
Ivor - not sure about this one
Sonny - think this is cute too and if I have another son it’ll definitely be considered!
Seth - I know one Seth and he’s really sweet, great name that’s not too common!
Jags - not sure about this either
Louis - my grandfather is called Luis and it’s my sons middle name, I love it, my grandfather is full of personality and not at all boring.
Rory - I kinda see this more as a nickname now for the girls names Lorelai and Aurora, I’m sure if I meet a boy called Rory though I’ll start to see it as a boys name in its own right.

Hope this is help ful!

queenqueenqueen · 31/05/2019 22:42

Love JONAH but too too many Js in our family it would start to sounds ridiculous but I so wanted this!!!

Also, I really don't like Juniper (sorry but it awful!) So for that reason so hoping you have a boy and you call him JONAH xxx

queenqueenqueen · 31/05/2019 22:43

PS literally never evet heard of cold comfort farm!!

mondler · 01/06/2019 06:26

Love Jonah and Seth. Never heard of the farm thing but if you have 3 kids it may not be as obvious? Especially if it's ds1 & ds3 if you see what I mean?

How about Elijah?

Malyshek · 01/06/2019 07:39

I like Jonah/Jonas in your list, I think it matches what you're looking for. Someone also suggested Asher which I also really like.

Icklepup · 02/06/2019 12:39

Love Sonny!
