Our girl was always going to be Charlotte Mae.

Do we stick with this or add a name so they both habe 2 middle names? Choices would be:

Charlotte Mae
Charlotte Emma Mae
Charlotte Sophie Mae.

We don't have to, just want opinions. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about them having the same amount of middle names.
Fwiw all my dc middle names are deceased family members.
Because of the timing and sex of dc it's ended up that ds1 has 1 middle name and dd and ds2 have 2.

It's personal choice all those name combinations sound lovely.

I think I’d just stick with Charlotte Mae, its a lovely name

Thanks, I've been adamant I'd stick with just Charlotte Mae but recently started to doubt myself. DH likes/wants Charlotte Emma Mae

Charlotte Mae is lovely, but personally I'd want all my children to have the same number of middle names.

Somehow it often seems to be the girls that are short-changed on this? Something to do with boys getting more family names perhaps. But perhaps I'm seeing patterns that aren't there.

Add the extra name so they're the same. My adult dd is adding an extra name by deedpoll because I didn't.

DeadDoorpost · 29/05/2019 12:28

@SundayMorningSun DS was only going to have 1 middle name but DH insisted his first name also be a middle name as one of his is his father's name. I personally don't see the point but I'm guessing he wants to do the same with DD.

And there's the problem.. I'd also like them to have the same number of names. Ugh. I never thought it would be so hard. Luckily we've got a few weeks to debate it.

See, this is the thing with boys getting family names and not girls.

In the spirit of equality, you could use your first name as the other middle name? That would be lovely, and the start of a new tradition. (Maybe your name is Emma and you are already considering this!)

bridgetreilly · 29/05/2019 14:11

Or you could include your maiden name as the second middle name, before her surname, to give her a link to your family?

Icklepup · 29/05/2019 14:29

Charlotte Emma Mae

DeadDoorpost · 29/05/2019 16:52

Yes, my name is Emma which is why DH is considering it. I just feel like its a bit vain if I use it though? I like my name, but not enough to give it to my daughter 😂 and what happens if we have more children? There's so many names used on both sides of our families that finding a name would be hard. And we'd have to keep the 2 middle names up. I don't think I could do it.

I don't even know why I like the name Sophie. Not enough as a first name, but certainly as a middle name. Maybe because my doll as a child was called Sophie. But it also goes really nicely with Charlotte and Mae.

sigh naming children gives me a headache.

@bridgetreilly I'd love to use my maiden name... but it's double barrelled and wouldn't sound even remotely like a girls name sadly.

Charlotte Sophia Mae sounds beautiful.

Charlotte and Mae are incidentally each my daughters middle names! Smile

In my opinion the 3 Christian names give a pleasing balance to the initials. I gave my DC 3 and now my GC has 3.

Clubbercised · 30/05/2019 15:52

Charlotte Emma Mae is lovely.

I'd go with that.

I have three middle names and I quite like it.
