stellarfox · 27/05/2019 07:55

Our baby is arriving tomorrow and we don’t know the gender. We’ve got a short list for boys but really undecided on girls. Any suggestions based on this list or opinions on these names? Not sure if “the one” is on here!

Ada
Celeste
Cora
Edith
Elodie
Evelina
Iris
Ivy
Lena
Mabel
Neve
Niamh
Tess

They're all lovely. I'd say, at this point, wait until he or she is here and then see what he or she looks like. Then, if you still have more than one name in mind, spend a day calling baby them and see which feels more natural.

It took us a week to name DD, don't panic. Good luck!

Icklepup · 27/05/2019 08:21

Love Elodie and Tess

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 08:25

Ada - love
Celeste - nice
Cora - love
Edith - ok
Elodie - ok
Evelina - not a fan
Iris - don’t like
Ivy - love
Lena - love
Mabel - hate
Neve - don’t like
Niamh - don’t like
Tess - hate

17caterpillars1mouse · 27/05/2019 08:31

I love Edith. It's so classy yet friendly sounding and Edie is cute as a nn. Have you considered Meredith?

Also like Iris and Mabel. Niamh is nice too. This spelling only

I know quite a few baby Elodie's if popularity is going to bother you

Really not a fan of Cora

SundayMorningSun · 27/05/2019 08:32

All usable and lovely - though my personal favourite is Niamh!

I would maybe narrow it down to:
Niamh
Cora
Elodie
Iris

Wait and see when he/she is here. Congratulations!

KinderSurpriseBump · 27/05/2019 09:44

Ivy is my favourite from your list

Peachbubble · 27/05/2019 10:32

Elodie is my favourite from your list. Also like Cora, Edith and Mabel.

Astrid0208 · 27/05/2019 10:35

I like Elodie and Lena

Fulltimemummy85 · 27/05/2019 10:35

Dislike Niamh and Tess. Neve is ok, love the rest. Elodie and Ada are my faves

VioletCharlotte · 27/05/2019 10:37

You've got some lovely names here. My favourites are Mabel, Edith and Iris.

Good luck!

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 27/05/2019 10:38

Maybe you subconsciously know you'll have a boy! If not, you could always wait and see what she looks like when shes born :)

Ada - personally I really dont like this
Celeste - ok but a bit posh
Cora - quite nice
Edith - not a fan of the old lady name trend
Elodie - really nice
Evelina - quite like this!
Iris - this is really nice, I've liked it ever since the first time I watched The Holiday.
Ivy - really nice
Lena - love
Mabel - again not too keen on old lady names
Neve - quite nice
Niamh - nice but think I prefer neve
Tess - really like this!

Out of your list I probably like iris, ivy, and lena the best, then elodie and tess.

userabcname · 27/05/2019 11:40

I love Celeste! I'd never give it much thought before but I teach one currently and it's such a lovely name. The more I say it the more I like it. It helps that she's a fab little girl too so I have really positive associations with it. That's definitely the winner for me.

bridgetreilly · 27/05/2019 11:44

I really like Ada, Edith, Ivy.

I don't like Lena at all and I think Niamh is infinitely preferable to Neve.

BlueMerchant · 27/05/2019 11:45

Lena best from your list.
Quite like Elodie but prefer (similar?) Eloise.

Doubtoftheordinary · 27/05/2019 12:00

Don't like Niamh (but it's preferable to Neve) but the rest are all so beautiful. You've got plenty of time to name him/her - within a couple weeks you'll probably find that one name "fits" better than the others.

Gobletoffire · 27/05/2019 12:06

Ada - love
Celeste - not keen
Cora - beautiful
Edith - gorgeous name, and I like Edie as a nn.
Elodie - very pretty
Evelina - ok
Iris - gorgeous
Ivy - gorgeous
Lena - not keen
Mabel - nice but reminds me of my aunt’s cat
Neve - nope, prefer spelling below
Niamh - ok
Tess - ok

Some nice names there OP. Ada, Edith and Iris are my faves

Clubbercised · 27/05/2019 13:37

Mabel or Tess by far! I also like Cora and Edith (very Downton Abbey Grin).

Not at all keen on Evelina or Elodie. I knew a ghastly woman with the former and loads of lovely (French) ones with the latter, but I don't really like how it seems to be pronounced in English. That would depend on whereabouts you live, as accents might make a difference.

Paultrybudget · 27/05/2019 13:54

Edith is my favourite, then Iris and Ivy.

How about?
Clara
Flora
Emmeline
Rosa
Esme
Fearne/Fern
Georgina
Harriet
Annabel
Anna
Millicent
Astrid
Olive
Imogen
Freya
Felicity
Verity
Alice
Claudia
Esther
Beatrice
Jenna
Cecily
Eleanor
Helena
Jemima
Matilda
Eliza

Congratulations!!

CakeRattleandRoll · 27/05/2019 14:12

Love: Celeste, Iris
Like: Cora, Ivy, Tess, Niamh

SallyWD · 27/05/2019 14:48

They're all lovely names. I agree you should wait until you meet the baby then decide. We chose a name for my son. We called him it for the first few days after he was born. We both felt awkward saying the name once we saw him because it didn't suit him. Luckily our back up name was perfect for him!

stellarfox · 27/05/2019 15:43

Thank you all! I was just hoping by now we’d have got the list down to at least a top 5 but apparently that’s too hard! Love some of the other suggestions, although a few of those names have been nabbed by friends/family. I’m hoping when we meet baby we might have a feeling about a certain name!

TatianaLarina · 27/05/2019 16:12

Iris and Niamh

Shadow1234 · 27/05/2019 18:23

Elodie and Neve are my top two favourites

Annalise
Melody
Estelle
Elise
Rosa
Evelyn (with the Ever-Lyn pronnounciation)

kimlo · 27/05/2019 18:30

I like Tess, but I prefer Tessa.

Malyshek · 27/05/2019 18:31

I like Neve but I'd write it Nieve (like snow in Spanish). Also like Iris.

Try saying them out loud with your family name. Alternatively, imagine meeting people with those names, what kind of people do you imagine and do you like it ?
