My Dh late grandfather was called Basil and I think it's such a cute name. However Isit mean to call a baby Basil? I hate the shortned version of Bas though! Opinions of Basil?

I don't think my husband will let me tbh! I like it for a baby and an old man but it dosent really work for a child/teen/adult 😂 maybe I'll name my cat it instead!

Lovely. My grandson Basil is now 21 and is gorgeous. It's a wonderful name.

Middle name is an option too if your DH does veto it (or you're put off by negative reactions or the Basil Brush comments Wink)

One of my boss' kids is called Basil (kid is half-russian, half-French so this was a good compromise on Vassily).

Personally I like it. No clue what characters other commenters are referring to. As far as I know it's a classic yet uncommon name. Nothing wrong with it at all. Plus it means King in greek.
