for years I have loved this specific name for when I have a baby girl an she would of been named after my dad who sadly passed away near 8years ago but now I am carrying my little girl and my cousin has just had a little girl and called her something very similar to mine and don’t want people thinking I’m copying or something when mine had a meaning behind and had for years, got bit upset when found out the name my cousin picked for her lg it’s like she knows what my name was goin to be and if that was the other way round I would of picked something so close or similar to my cousin who was Gna be named after her Grandads anyway I’m going on abit jist some advice on what you think I should do stick with the name I have had or try settling on something else , my dad was called ray so the name I had for my babygirl would of been Rayah, Rayah may an my cousin called her little girl Fraya witch in my eyes there to similar, iv been thinking of lilah rae last couple of days incase I need a back up name and don’t end up going with my was no1 name Rayah x

I don’t think Freya would have occurred to them as being close to your Dad Ray.

What about Rae as a girls name? I’ve always thought that was pretty

Proseccofuelled · 21/05/2019 11:54

Or Raven

MrsBertBibby · 21/05/2019 11:57

Reyna

Raelie

SnowdropFox · 21/05/2019 11:58

How close are you to the cousin? How often do you see them and your close family see them? If not close and don't see often then just use the name. As pps have said the cousin probably didn't make the connection and Freya is lovely name too.
If you are close, use it as a middle name? That way you are still getting to honour your dad with your LO.

MauveTulips · 21/05/2019 12:19

I really wouldn’t think those names are too similar for cousins. When you’re little girl is born say you’ve always wanted to name her after your dad. Honestly don’t worry about anyone thinking you’re copying, I’ve heard of siblings who have similar sounding names. Chances are when they’re grown up they won’t be meeting everyday. Choose the name you love.

I've known Rachel's who go by "Rae," and it wouldn't make sense to shorten Freya to Ray/Rae, so you can still honour your dad with the nickname.

I'm sure you'll come up with a lovely solution once the surprise has passed, good luck and don't worry.

polkadotmoonbeam · 21/05/2019 12:28

I went to school with someone called Raechel...or maybe it was Raechelle...who went by Rae (I've only recently found out that wasn't her full name!) is that kind of thing an option?

If you love Rayah, I don't think you should change your plans because of someone else picking a similar name. You may regret it down the line if they don't spend a lot of time together & you've picked a random name rather than using something you've had your heart set on for so long! How often will your DD be around her cousin? It's a lovely sentiment using your dad's name.

Congratulations on your DD Thanks

StrippingTheVelvet · 21/05/2019 12:42

Lilah Rae is an absolutely beautiful name. I think it would be a lovely tribute to your dad.

Aims19 · 21/05/2019 12:44

Rayanne (My So Called Life!)
Rachel
Renee
Raywyn
Soraya
Raelle

I like Rae as a standalone name though and prefer it to having it tagged onto another first name.

You have lots of options! Smile

But if you have your hearts set on Rayah, stick with that! (I prefer it spelt Raya though)

Quintella · 21/05/2019 12:59

And Raya means friend apparently. Sweet name.

outsho · 21/05/2019 13:28

I wouldn’t think you had copied her if I heard the two names. Ray/Rae is quite a popular middle name for girls nowadays as well so that could be an option.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/05/2019 20:18

Rayna. Rayleigh. Regan. Ravan
Or what about a hyphenated name such.as
Lily-Ray
Molly-Ray
Sophie-Ray
Emilia-Ray
Annie-Ray
Daisy-Ray
Martha-Ray
Abbie-Ray
Olivia-Ray
Lucy-Ray
Bonnie-Ray
Dolly-Ray
Jolie-Ray
Aimee-Ray
Leila-Ray

LesleyA · 21/05/2019 20:24

Rae Lilah? Either way round absolutely beautiful. If your dad's name is a second name its still honouring him it just gives her first name as her own identity and second a name of someone extremely loved.

Constantdishes · 21/05/2019 21:06

Would the cousins have the same surname? For example if neither of you were married or the children were not taking their fathers name, I would avoid it. Cousins Freya Jones and Raya Jones for example. I think you should talk to your cousin and sound her out about it, if it were me and I knew the name was important to you I would understand.
PS I know cousin's Isla and Lila and nobody remarked

TurquoiseAndPurple · 22/05/2019 14:27

My dd's middle name is Soraya. We were going to use it as a first name originally with the nn Raya. She now gets called firstname-Raya as a nn.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 22/05/2019 14:34

I should have added that I think it's fine to call her Rayah. I wouldn't think you had copied. I obviously love it 😍❤️

Clownfish123 · 22/05/2019 18:41

Go with Rayah it's gorgeous. Another option is Raina nickname Ray. I have a friend with a Raina, it's lovely and sounds less like Fraya.

PollyShelby · 22/05/2019 18:43

Rayne is quite nice
