I love the name Noah for DS3 due in summer, but worry about it's popularity. I've been reading the thread about popular names with interest. I would normally avoid such a popular name.

How many little Noahs do you know? Will it date badly? Should I even care?

Why is naming a baby such hard work?!

I know only one Noah. I lovely boys name!

lostlobster · 16/05/2019 22:41

I don’t know any little Noah’s, I don’t think popularity matters if you love the name. It’s a gorgeous name

poweroverme · 16/05/2019 22:43

11 years ago I named my son, to find out that at nursery and school there were loads and it's now in the top 30 list. Even worse is my dp's ex ( who doesn't like me) has just named her new baby said sons name.
But my ds has the perfect name for him and as popular as it gets it suits him to a T.
Other ds's name has started floating about on mn too, and I named him it 14 years ago.

Go with it if you love it.

Haworthia · 16/05/2019 22:44

I like it. I’ve never met one, either.

sparklysunflower · 16/05/2019 22:46

I don't like Noah and feel it will probably start to fall out of fashion and sound dated soon.

SnowdropFox · 16/05/2019 22:46

Love Noah. Not as popular as I thought it would be, only met one or two.

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2019 22:47

The only one I know is 13 and so lovely. It's a good strong name.

klendraa · 16/05/2019 22:48

There’s really no point asking people how many Noah’s they know. Noah is a popular name, fact. Some people may just have encountered more Noah’s than others. Some people may have encountered less Noah’s than others. You may find Noah to be very popular or not. It is a popular name but if u like it go for it.

MarieToulouseBerlioz · 16/05/2019 22:48

I think it's a really nice name.

I have a family member called Noah but hes 11/12. The only other Noah I know of is 3.

TrixieFranklin · 16/05/2019 22:55

I know one - he is 3 and a lovely little boy and it really suits him. Great name.

SpeedyBojangles · 16/05/2019 22:58

I know 3

6, 2 and 6 months.

I think it is a very popular name but if you like it then use it!

happyhillock · 16/05/2019 22:59

Noah is a lovely name

Proseccofuelled · 17/05/2019 01:28

Noah is lovely and yes it will date but the majority of names do

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 17/05/2019 01:30

Loads! So many Noahs and Oscars.

MrsFoxPlus4 · 17/05/2019 02:28

I don’t really know any young Noah’s anymore

Astronica · 17/05/2019 02:59

Yes it's a very popular name. Yes it will date. Should you care - only you can decide whether popularity or your love for the name is more important.

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 17/05/2019 04:05

I think it's a lovely name, but steered away from it myself because of the first syllable "no" which is all you'll be saying for the first few years!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/05/2019 04:13

21 years ago I was pregnant with ds2 and really wanted to call him Noah. Dh vetoed it on the grounds that it was so unusual he would be teased for it. None of my friends ds thought it was a good idea either- one of them said it was bizarre, another one said it was so old fashioned that it wouldn't be fair to DS. So he ended up with a different name.

Fast forward a few years and it seemed that every other baby was called Noah. Names go through periods of popularity.

If you like it then go for it. It's a great name!

SnowsInWater · 17/05/2019 04:25

My Noah is 20 and was the only boy of that name in his school, it's massively popular now.

It is still my all time favourite boys name (don't tell his brother).

SnowsInWater · 17/05/2019 04:27

Emma how funny - we gave our Noah a very conventional middle name as we thought it would be a good back up if he thought Noah was too wacky as he grew up!

rainyfriday · 17/05/2019 06:13

Thank you all! Popularity doesn't bother me as much as it dating badly. I do love it though.

Other contenders are: Flynn, Maxwell and Eli

Noah is lovely and I prefer it to any of your other options personally.

Proseccofuelled · 17/05/2019 06:46

Most names you like are going to be ones the next generation will want to distance themselves from & so will date. Have a look at this chart & you can see these names will be strongly linked to their generation.

Names that are likely to be on the rise in a decade or two are the ones considered too unfashionable for our generation

Noah
sparklysunflower · 17/05/2019 06:56

Exactly. And by avoiding a name that has shot up in popularity (almost out of nowhere), you reduce the risk of having a 'dated' name as it falls out favour.

Much better to go for a more classic timeless name outside the top 100. There are so many great 'unfashionable' names!
