How creative can we get?

I like Annie and can think of Ann, Annabelle for a name that Annie can be a diminutive of... any others? I'm also very willing to use Annie as a birth certificate name but I'm curious to alternatives

:)

Nancy is another of the standard familiar names for Anne

My grandmother was called Annie, but everyone called her Nancy. Before she died when she was 90, we were talking about it and I asked her why, and she had no idea.

Where does that link come from?

feelingverylazytoday · 16/05/2019 16:55

Some of these names have absolutely nothing to do with Annie, and many people will not get the connection.
I would just call her Annie, personally. And then some people will shorten it to Ann.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/05/2019 16:56

Snowy I think it goes back to Anne Boleyn.

daisypond · 16/05/2019 17:04

snowy it goes back to olde times with lots of names that start with vowels.
Mine Anne - Nan - Nancy.
Mine Ed(ward) - Ned - Neddy. Etc.

Anniken. Not as in Skywalker, it’s a Norwegian girl’s name.

minou123 · 16/05/2019 20:14

It's my name Smile

My actual name is Annie, but some people do think it is a shortened name. A lot of people think my name is Ann.

My favourite story to tell about my name: I was telling a friend that every time I introduce myself to someone new, the person will always say "oh, I had a great aunty/grandmother called Annie". Not 5 minutes later, I introduced myself to a colleague and sure enough he said "oh, I had a great aunt called Annie". I gave my friend a 'see what I mean' look and she could not stop laughing. Still talks about it to this day.

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2019 22:50

I know 3 Annies. I is my nan who is Angela 1 is my friends daughter Rhiannon and I is our best man's wife just Annie.

Kittykatmacbill · 16/05/2019 23:18

*I don't understand why you can't just call her Annie if you like Annie.

I know a few people who have one name in their BC but only ever called something else & it just makes life difficult on things like job applications, work email addresses etc.

Just call her what you're going to actually call*

This.

I have a ‘real’ name and a ‘nick’ name everyone actually calls me. It’s infurating - just name what you are going to call her for all the reasons given above. And Annie is a perfectly nice real name that people can spell, and nearly everyone will tell you about their beloved great aunt Annie. (Dd1 is indeed an Annie).

Whoops75 · 16/05/2019 23:22

I wanted to call dd Annie but dh said she would be inundated with people making the joke ‘ are there Annie’ surname in the room.

I think you need a two part name to make Annie work , O Dowd or mc Milligan etc

@Kittykatmacbill I'm absolution favour of calling her Annie in birth certificate as I've stated a few times. I was curious to what else I could like if I liked Annie
