Help! cant pick between these two

Hello!

After so much back and forth, I cannot seem to decide between Eleonora and Genevieve.

For Genevieve, the nns we had in mind are Evie, Gigi, and Ginny. Since we dislike the Gen, Genny, Genna nns

And for Eleonora, Elle, Ellie, Leo, Nora.

I think both names are lovely, but I cant seem to pick one!

Love Nora / Eleanora

Whatwillhappentomorrow · 14/05/2019 19:05

Eleanora/Nora

thisisthetime · 14/05/2019 19:15

Love Genevieve but also love nn Nora. I’m not much help am I?🙄

Shadow1234 · 14/05/2019 19:20

Genevieve is lovely.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/05/2019 19:20

Genevieve.

Although I don’t think you should use it if you don’t like Gen, just in case it’s what her friends end up calling her. The Genevieve we know gets called Gee.

BlueMerchant · 14/05/2019 19:22

Genevieve nn Eve

Jaz32 · 14/05/2019 19:23

Eleanor

Calixtine · 14/05/2019 19:43

Both nice, but my vote goes to Genevieve!

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2019 19:48

I like Eleanor, but not Eleanora. Love Nora though.

Genevieve is lovely and much less common. I'd go with Vivi as a nn. I like Evie as well. Not keen on Ginny or Gigi (that's another word for a horse!)

PlatypusLeague · 14/05/2019 20:25

I like Eleanora with any of the nicknames you've said. Also Leni, Lena, Nell.

Effic · 14/05/2019 20:37

Genevieve is beautiful but I don’t get the nn thing. The Genevieve i know is called Genevieve - always has been as it’s a beautiful name!

Goosethemoose · 14/05/2019 21:23

I prefer Genevieve, but I think you should use lovely Leonora instead if you don't like Gen- nicknames.

Jauralane · 14/05/2019 21:31

Genevieve is beautiful and either Evie or Ginny would be lovely as nicknames x

Disappearedtothe80s · 14/05/2019 21:44

Love Genevieve, beautiful, my DD went to school with one who's nn was Gen.

Lots of Eleanors, Ellies, Evies etc around

diddlediddle · 14/05/2019 21:48

They're both lovely. Wait and see what she looks like.

If you pick Eleanora please don't spell it Eleonora though!! You'd say that "Ellie - o - Nora" which is just weird and clunky compared to the very beautiful Eleanora. All nicknames nice but especially Nora, more unusual in a sea of Ellies.

ALSO if you choose Genevieve - a beautiful and unusual, classic name - don't choose Evie as a nickname. It's incredibly popular and dare I say it, common. Like Ellie, it kind of ruins the point of having such a fab proper name. Vivi also nice nickname.

BuffySummerss · 14/05/2019 21:53

Do you mean Eleonora or Eleanora? Eleonora doesn't seem like the correct spelling. I would pronounce it Elio-Nora which is odd. I like Eleanora & Eleanor and Love all the nicknames associated with these names except Ellie. Leni, Nell, Ella, Nora etc are fab.
Not keen on Genevieve, seems a bit of a mouthful.

rosemoon12 · 14/05/2019 22:27

both eleanora and eleonora are a variation of Eleanor. Eleonora is just the italian variation. Very much a name :) and I do prefer it compared to Eleanora. Oddly enough, thats the one that seems a bit weird to me haha

I'd go for Eleonora with Nora as a nickname

I like Genevieve too but less keen on your nickname choices

It would seem a shame to pick a lovely exotic name like Eleonora or Genevieve and then use Elle, Ellie or Evie as a nickname as they are all massively overused at the moment

Proseccofuelled · 14/05/2019 22:34

I love the name Nora so on that basis Eleonora wins from your list although I’d probably just go Eleanor for pretty simplicity.

Although having just written that I’m drawn to Genevieve for how unusual it is.....

So I’m no help whatsoever Grin

rosemoon12 · 14/05/2019 22:41

hahaha yes I love how unusual Genevieve is, I'm just not into Gen, Genny, and Genna nns.

Both are lovely, but I prefer Genevieve. I think you can go a long way to controlling the nns so that wouldn't put me off. (You just always use the forms you prefer and correct anyone who does differently. Both my sister and I have done this and successfully stopped people calling us the most expected nns for our names.)

FizzyGreenWater · 15/05/2019 15:59

Both good, I would pick Genevieve simply because if she then ends up as Ellie that seems such a waste!

The Genevieve I know is Vivie.

CassandraCross · 15/05/2019 16:07

I can see your dilemma, but Genevieve wins for me as it is a beautiful, evocative name and as Mercy said you will be able to control the nicknames.

PaintingOwls · 15/05/2019 16:11

I would go with Eleonora and not use Genevieve unless you're French, although I think it's a beautiful name and the better one of the two you're considering.

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2019 20:15

Genevieve, definitely.
