Telegraph baby names...

What do they indicate? Does it predict future trends?

What’s your thoughts? High end? Or down market? Or just Tory?

I was about to say that's one heck of an unusual name 😂

I thought you were calling your baby Telegraph for a minute thenGrin

Sometimes Buzzfeed or similar will compile a list of the wackiest Telegraph names and so many of the names just seem ridiculous to me. But wealthy, posh Telegraph announcing types get away with ridiculous, in a way that Amanda and Paul from down the road can't, because people think 'oh aren't they charmingly eccentric'.

But a lot of people in the UK like to mimic the posh and wealthy so the names do filter down eventually.

Seem pretty normal names to me

DulcieRay · 08/05/2019 20:12

Mostly unexciting and unremarkable though

MikeUniformMike · 08/05/2019 20:29

Just Tory.

PlatypusLeague · 08/05/2019 21:05

The vibe I get is: Classy, sometimes quirky (and who cares if anyone doesn't like that?) and presumably mostly Tory if they've picked the Telegraph.

Bumblebeesmum · 08/05/2019 22:00

I thought this was another ridiculous name suggestion - can’t decide if it would have been better or worse than ‘Tree’

The baby name blog that compiles all of the Telegraph announcements is quite interesting - it’s pretty firmly upper middle class I’d say with some randoms thrown in

MikeUniformMike · 09/05/2019 10:05

I don't think it would make a nice name, but then would Times, Guardian, Observer or Independent? I'd not mention tabloids but (Liverpool) Echo wouldn't be too bad.

stellarfox · 09/05/2019 10:11

I think it’s quite upper class people that do the announcements so a lot of kids that will be going to private school! Not sure if they necessarily indicate name trends, however I’ve noticed a lot of Florence and Ottilies on there which are on the up at the moment!

Sophronia · 09/05/2019 21:15

I often see these names in the Telegraph BAs: Hector, Hugo, Willa, Ottilie, Flora, Wilfred, Ophelia, Leander, Honor, Arabella, Wilbur, Leonora, Cecily, Beatrice and Florence.

Some of those will probably become mainstream if they aren’t already.
