A bump called Arlo...

Hi, with our first 2 children we seem to have carried on using the name we gave bump even after the baby was born:
Bump 1 was known as Jimmy - now 4yo Imogen with Jimmy as a nn.
Bump 2 was known as Billy - now 2yo Zachary is sometimes called Zachabilly.

We're really struggling for a name for baby 3, a boy... so much so, I am wondering whether our bump name for no. 3 - Arlo - lends itself to any good alternatives for a longer/different given name?! DD is v keen to use Arlo for the baby when born (she named bump), I do quite like it, but DH is unconvinced. I've heard Arlo can be a nn for Charles, but can anyone else think of other names that could use a version of Arlo as a nn?

Isn't Arlo a name in its own right though? I'm not sure it needs a longer version. I'd just go with that - it's sweet!

Just Arlo? Confused

ANiceLuxury · 07/05/2019 22:39

My nephew is Arlo.

It’s not short for anything

RainbowMum11 · 07/05/2019 22:40

I know a boy Arlo, that's this name.

hewontstopshitting · 07/05/2019 22:41

I think Arlo is lovely, but I can see how it could a NN for Charles, so if you like that go with that

Butterfly84 · 07/05/2019 22:45

Just go with Arlo if that's what you like OP. Don't go looking for other names that are extensions of it.

However, if your DH isn't sure...back to the drawing board.

AndItStillSaidFourOfTwo · 07/05/2019 22:49

It'll date, if that matters to you. I don't think it's terrible, but it's not very solid or substantial.

Arlo is a name in its own right, and quite popular in certain circles.

At a push you could use any name with an 'Ar' sound as the basis for Arlo as a nn

Charlie
Arlington
Arthur
Marley (or Marlow)
Farley
Carl or Carlton
Harley or Harlow or Harlequin
Marcus
Barney
Jarvis

Arlo is a lovely name

If you’d prefer a more classic with it as a nickname then suggestions:

Roland (see what I did there? Grin )
Charles
Arthur
Archer
Lawrence
Leo
Randolph

Bumblebeesmum · 08/05/2019 10:16

Roland is perfect actually
Please tell me I win Grin

FlowTeeBowTee · 08/05/2019 10:17

Carlo
Marlowe

TrixieFranklin · 08/05/2019 10:24

Alonso?

lazymare · 08/05/2019 10:37

Roland is perfect actually

Not if you ever watched Grange Hill 😂

Calixtine · 08/05/2019 10:44

Harley or Harlan?

Alastair?

Aurelian/Aurelio?

A first name + middle like Arthur Lawrence or Rupert Leo?

oohbubbles1 · 08/05/2019 18:19

I love the name Arlo- I think it sounds great as a stand alone name :)

Winchking · 08/05/2019 20:49

Thanks all - some great suggestions that we can now chat through Smile! I really like Arthur, Laurence and the middle name option, as well as just the name Arlo in its own right (amazing how names grow on you the more you use them!). Obviously though if it were just down to me, bumblebeesmum, Roland would win but I've got a 4yo to convince so no guarantees Wink
