What ‘vibe’ do you get from these names?

This is our list of potential baby boy names. Do they give you a certain ‘vibe’? Would you make any presumptions about the child or parents of children with any of these names. I’m not using responses to base my decision, it’s more of a wondering. Thank you.

Milo
Miles/Myles
Jude
Jasper
Jago
Rowan
Rueben
Seth

Not really. A little bit hipster, cool but fairly classic/traditional. I love Miles, Jude, Jasper and Jago especially!

DennisSkinnersMolotov · 07/05/2019 11:17

For me, Jago stands out from the list as a bit public school. No particular vibes from the others though.

floraloctopus · 07/05/2019 11:20

Milo - is a Tweenie
Miles/Myles - it's ok
Jude - Hey Jude (though I do like the name)
Jasper - Jasper Carrott
Jago - no - sago
Rowan - no
Rueben - it's spelt Reuben
Seth - it's OK.

HappinessIsKey · 07/05/2019 11:21

Miles/ Jude I would think fairly well off parents..
I loved Miles, was number one on my baby names list but was ruled out as our surname begins with an M 😮

Milo instantly think of a dog being named that! Don't know why!

Jago..parents trying to be too 'edgy'

Seth..boring

Jasper and Rowan..can't imagine a little baby being called them names..

But remember if you like them, that's all that counts! I like very soft sounding boys names (both my boys have unusual soft sounding names)
But that's just me xx

daisypond · 07/05/2019 11:27

Milo - hm 20 years out of date. Behind the curve.
Miles/Myles - first spelling really nice, classy but not popular. My favourite.
Jude - like this. Not as upmarket as miles but classless.
Jasper - not keen. A bit posh and wet to me.
Jago - hard to judge this one. I like it.
Rowan- hippy middle class, wet.
Rueben - makes you look ignorant as it’s spelled wrongly. downmarket.
Seth - like. Similar feel to Jude.

IvanaPee · 07/05/2019 11:28

I think they’re lovely. Vibe wise I wouldn’t get much - nice, normal family really!

AnnieOH1 · 07/05/2019 11:39

Milo - Nestlé drink
Miles/Myles - brings to my mind a middle aged gentry type
Jude - I like the Biblical connection but sounds very feminine to my ear
Jasper - quite like it but needs a middle name or too trying
Jago - for me makes me think of Iago and two-facedness
Rowan - I know absolutely zero boys with this name but quite a gaggle of different girls born in the last decade
Rueben - Love the name but not the spelling
Seth - Strong biblical name which I do like but makes me think of Emmerdale Farm!!!

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 11:59

Yes I spelt Reuben wrong!🙈🙈🙈🙈 maybe I shouldn’t choose that one if I can’t even spell it😆 (I’m blaming baby brain ok??)

Milo - does make me think a little of The Tweenies but I really like it and would use Blush
Miles/Myles - love Miles, not so keen on Myles but unsure why
Jude - love
Jasper - a bit try hard, but perhaps tainted because a girl I know who comes across like that has just named her baby Jasper. I prefer Caspar or Caspian.
Jago - would wonder if you were Cornish. I love it.
Rowan - love
Rueben - prefer Reuben. Neutral
Seth - unsure why this is so popular, the first Seth that springs to mind is the Egyptian God of Chaos

Mayalready · 07/05/2019 12:02

I have a Roan. Very self confident, ambitious and loving!!
Perfect!!

PCohle · 07/05/2019 12:36

Naice middle class leafy London suburb names. Bit wet.

Flamingosnbears · 07/05/2019 12:51

Seth's great!! the others are getting increasingly popular Jago would be second on your list

PantsyMcPantsface · 07/05/2019 13:23

Fairly popular around my kids' class... we're that kind of demographic.

Apart from Jude - biased since the one I know has been bullying DD2 for months and months (to avoid my earwigging eldest figuring out who we're talking about since bloody school taught her to spell we resort to referring to "nah nah nah" to refer to the child in question... I'm fucked when they introduce her to the Beatles) and Jasper=the name of a relative's cat very fond of dangling his tail in the fire and setting his arse aflame.

hewontstopshitting · 07/05/2019 13:29

You’ve actually got DS1’s first and middle name in there! And a lot of names DH vetoed.

I wouldn’t have much of an opinion on these names, I’d say quite middle class sounding, but then again we aren’t middle class.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 07/05/2019 14:00

I would think you were mega posh

Mishappening · 07/05/2019 14:07

Reuben is lovely - go for that one. Just practice the spelling!! [smile}

barryfromclareisfit · 07/05/2019 14:17

Rowan, Seth and Reuben are fine.

Sparklysunflower · 07/05/2019 14:21

The only 'vibe' I get is it's probably a boy!

tisonlymeagain · 07/05/2019 14:34

The vibe I would get is very white middle class but there's nothing wrong with that! Seth and Miles would be on my list!

PlatypusLeague · 07/05/2019 16:11

All of them live in North London, go to prep school, enjoy art, cricket and computers and have a sister called Tabitha or Matilda. They have a cat called Marmalade which is extremely fluffy and needs a good brush. Today they are having avocado and walnut salad for tea with soda bread.

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 16:13

That is quite the image Platypus 😆 thanks for all the responses so far, I find it very interesting the images and associations some names conjure.

Would Marcus fit in your list? Jude and Miles are two of my favourite boys’ names, along with Marcus.

ScreamScreamIceCream · 07/05/2019 16:27

Marcus = Marcus Tandy from the failed soap Eldorado or a red/blond balding middle aged man

daisypond · 07/05/2019 16:32

scream really? I’ve never heard of Marcus Tandy. I only know a lovely rather posh but not too posh one in his mid 20s who is everything I’d want a son to be! Odd how names have different associations.

Kaddm · 07/05/2019 16:42

They are mostly names that relatively posh parents use so their child supposedly stands out more than Jack, Oliver, Matthew etc. None of the names really appeal to me, Miles is OK but also a surname.
