This is our list of potential baby boy names. Do they give you a certain ‘vibe’? Would you make any presumptions about the child or parents of children with any of these names. I’m not using responses to base my decision, it’s more of a wondering. Thank you.

Milo
Miles/Myles
Jude
Jasper
Jago
Rowan
Rueben
Seth

If you want him eating tofu and doing baby yoga pick Jago.

I didn’t say that’s what I want Hezz I was just referring to PPs opinions.

Milo: like the character from the phantom tollbooth book - bit weedy and spoilt but reformable!
Miles/Myles: arrogant posh boy, like the character from the 90s lawyer drama 'thus life'
Jude: think of Jude the obscure by hardy, the most depressing book ever, cos if that I'd avoid it but on face value it's the nicest of the list, and Jude from the book is a decent character, just in a tragic situation
Jasper: weedy spoilt horrible brat with posh parents, hate it
Jago: weird posh name, but actually get the West Country ref so maybe also a farmer vibe a bit like Seth, much preferable to jasper
Rowan: bit girly, hippy parents, likely awful bowl hair cut
Rueben: tough guy, bit posh, also Achaea tee from cold comfort farm, but I didn't remember that immediately
Seth: always associate it one of my favourite books, cold comfort farm, he's the handsome oversexed son, I associate it with a handsome barely slightly arrogant rural living man.

breadwidow · 07/05/2019 20:25

Awful auto correct typo in my message below, Reuben is also a character from cold comfort farm

WokenUp · 07/05/2019 20:27

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 07/05/2019 20:34

Jude deffo the best

Poppyfields21 · 07/05/2019 20:47

@Woken it’s Jay-go. I’m from London but I’ve known a few, I certainly wouldn’t think of it as a totally out there name. I actually quite like it, it’s quite informal and genial.

Ineedamanipedi · 07/05/2019 20:51

Personally I love Hector, Otis and Bruno for a boy. Are they suitably hipsterish op?

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 21:11

I’m not looking for ‘hipsterish’ names Ineed, but I do like Otis but husband doesn’t.
Yes it is pronounced Jay-go’ and has Cornish roots, much like our family. I appreciate it is probably the most unusual of our list.

Jazz is a fab boy's name.

WokenUp · 07/05/2019 22:32

Jago is my fave

Butterfly84 · 07/05/2019 22:41

Jago- the strongest connotation of the names in your list. Posh try-hard (sorry).
Jasper- also posh try-hard but to a lesser degree.

Love Milo, Jude, Rowan and Seth btw!

MerryMarigold · 08/05/2019 06:38

Milo - bit trying to be trendy, quite a few out there
Miles/Myles - posh with an I, not sure with a y.
Jude - popular (I have one!)
Jasper - posh
Jago - v posh
Rowan - lovely, but maybe a bit wet
Rueben - nice, professional class (teachers, docs etc.)
Seth - medium posh

MerryMarigold · 08/05/2019 06:45

A craft ale brewer should be good with names. I'd go for something slightly less 'hipster' with that profession.

Elias
Zebedee ( I love Zeb)
Xander
John or Luke (underused, I think)
Lawrence

palahvah · 08/05/2019 06:51

"Highly sexed young men living on farms are always called Seth or Reuben."

Bumblebeesmum · 08/05/2019 09:23

These ones probably working class family:
Milo
Miles/Myles
Jasper

These ones probably hippyish family:
Rowan
Rueben

These ones probably posh:
Seth
Jago
Jude
