What ‘vibe’ do you get from these names?

This is our list of potential baby boy names. Do they give you a certain ‘vibe’? Would you make any presumptions about the child or parents of children with any of these names. I’m not using responses to base my decision, it’s more of a wondering. Thank you.

Milo
Miles/Myles
Jude
Jasper
Jago
Rowan
Rueben
Seth

All of them live in North London, go to prep school, enjoy art, cricket and computers and have a sister called Tabitha or Matilda. They have a cat called Marmalade which is extremely fluffy and needs a good brush. Today they are having avocado and walnut salad for tea with soda bread.

All this - only leafy comp not prep school.

DieselSucker · 07/05/2019 16:47

The only two that I like from that list are Reuben and Seth.

abcriskringle · 07/05/2019 16:48

I have taught boys with all these names in ordinary comprehensive schools. I wouldn't make any assumptions really. They are a little unusual (although Rowan and Seth are increasingly popular) but nothing that 'out there'. I particularly like Milo, I think it's a lovely name.

RollsEyes · 07/05/2019 17:07

Is that you, Meghan?

RedSheep73 · 07/05/2019 17:13

There's a bit of a posh-boy vibe going on there. I knew a girl Rowan as a kid so to me that's a girls' name. Seth is biblical isn't it, but I can imagine it being hard for little ones to say...round here he'd be Seff

BogglesGoggles · 07/05/2019 17:16

I like them all. They were all pretty popular about five years ago though if that matters-it shouldn’t though. They’re nice names.

ElizabethMainwaring · 07/05/2019 17:20

Good lord! Is this list posh!? Who knew! (Black country, now east Midlands very lower middle class here).

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 07/05/2019 17:22

apart from Rowan and Reuben, they are all achingly hip middle class names.

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 17:26

Oh dear, we are relatively ‘middle class’ I suppose and my husband is a craft ale brewer-so that possibly makes him a ‘hipster’ by definition, but that’s not the vibe we were going for necessarily, just the only names we both agree on. I think we are going to take Rowan and Seth off the list due to the increase in baby girls called Rowan and the potential ‘Seff’ pronunciation. Thanks again for all replies.

Ha ha! Marcus Tandy! The man whose nose looked like a penis! I always wondered if his penis looked like a nose. I very much doubt if anyone understands this post...

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 17:37

I have no idea who he is or what you’re talking about!😆
Daisy Marcus isn’t really my style, mainly because I’m not fond of Mark as a potential shortening.

They all seem quite normal names to me in general and not very posh. I know a couple of Judes and their dads are postmen and carpenters, so I’m surprised to hear anyone think that is posh. It’s just a very normal name. Rowan and Reuben seem pretty posh to me.

MikeUniformMike · 07/05/2019 18:11

Milo - milk drink
Miles/Myles - donn't like the Myles spelling
Jude - don't like it at all
Jasper - ok
Jago - ok
Rowan - nice
Rueben - Reuben. I think it seems a bit wet
Seth - Emmerdale gamekeeper

Pegaroo · 07/05/2019 18:14

They are all popular and reasonably nice names at the moment. Jago is a bit try hard hipster, but it’s not horrible.

Macandcheese05 · 07/05/2019 18:51

Milo ........ nice, cute boy
Miles/Myles ............. MILES nice quiet clever boy
Jude ............not keen, bit boho, he will have tofu at his kids yoga party
Jasper ........... love it
Jago ............ american influence, not keen
Rowan ............... used to love it but naughty Rowan in my DCs class
Rueben .......... same as above, horrible arrogant child
Seth ................. not keen

bridgetreilly · 07/05/2019 19:07

LOL at Marcus Tandy!!! I mean, I loved Eldorado as much as anyone, but I don't think that 25 years after it stopped airing, it's much of a worry for naming a baby.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 07/05/2019 19:14

Your DH probably works where I live in SE London, which is achingly hip and has many a craft ale place. Has he got a beard and tattoos?

It’s the kind of place where if you call your child something popular they’ll be the only one in their class because everyone’s so desperate not to give their child a popular name.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 07/05/2019 19:15

Rowan is the best name on your list! Don’t take it off!

Poppyfields21 · 07/05/2019 19:20

Jago is a traditional Cornish name!!

Hezz · 07/05/2019 19:24

Jude is a naughty boy name.

It's the new Riley,

113563onlynumbers · 07/05/2019 19:34

WeepingWillow he has a beard but no tattoos😆 we don’t live in London though.

Shows how subjective names are doesn’t it Hezz others have said Jude will eat tofu and do baby yoga and you refer to it as ‘the new Riley.’ Appreciate the comment though.

Milo - definitely reminds me of the tweenies
Miles/Miles - my favourite on your list
Jude - Jude Law, nice name (second favourite on your list)
Jasper - dont like
Jago - on the fence with this one
Rowan - seems to becoming very poular as girls name lately (and I prefer it for a girl)
Seth - old man in Emmerdale
Reuben - not keen

Shadow1234 · 07/05/2019 19:56

what about Elliott or Ezra?

BikeRunSki · 07/05/2019 19:56

Wanna be hipster, but not really that cool in reality.

Lucked · 07/05/2019 20:00

I don’t know any Seth’s, Jago’s or Jaspers but I know lots of professional parents who have choosen the other names. There was a time about 5 years ago when it felt like every other boy was Milo or Rueben. Really like Miles From your list.
