I don't think they're "common" names at all. I only know of Harrison because of Harrison Ford and MN, and I think of Archie as a bit posh, a Captain in the Army maybe.

Archie isn't posh. It's a name you can hear being called across every park and every playground and every Tesco.

But I love the scramble to rebrand it as posh now that it's been adopted by the royals.

Definitely not posh! I too have heard Archie called across many a park and playground in various parts of the U.K. And Harrison is very popular in America and increasingly popular in the U.K. Too

It may well be popular but I think Archie is a green wellies and good manners type of name.

My DS Harrison is neither common nor (except the very odd occasion) naughty, but thanks for attributing those characteristic to all people with that name, previous posters...

GoFiguire · 09/05/2019 06:32

Common as in used frequently. It’s not my fault that you think it’s low rank.

From Wikipedia

Harrison is the 42nd most common surname in England and 123rd most common in the United States.

Nope, I’m quite aware of the connotations of the word common in the responses of some posters (not necessarily on this thread but there were many similar ones); it had nothing to do with the name's frequency...

PS not saying that was your intention, by the way * but it certainly was in other cases.

Archie is as near an anagram of Rachel (Meghan's real name) as you can get.

Harrison - the Harry's son bit. Name is definitely an attempt to combine their two names. Bit naff?

Happy
Isn’t her name Rachel Meghan? Both ‘real’ names.

I love the suggestion of Harry being irritated by his birth certificate - it must be a nightmare for him with people getting his name wrong all the time Grin

On the plus side at least he has a variety of surnames to choose from Grin

Are you saying “Harrison” is their attempt at Brangelina and Bennifer? I think you’re reading too much into it!

Report
BelulahBlanca · 10/05/2019 07:19

Archie is nothing like an anagram of Rachel!

Report
happyinherts · 10/05/2019 09:22

BelulahBlanca

It's got five out of the six letters - nothing like?

I am listening to good mornng on tv and a load of whining from people about the excessive coverage about the royal baby.
Now I know why I got PTSD at work because people are so flaming miserable and can't take joy in anything.
I love celebrating new arrivals whoever they are, any good news is great for me and I try and find joy wherever I can.
Life is to short for being miserable. And miseries wear other people down to the point of despair.

I find it funny how all those thinking Archie or Harrison are posh names are scrambling to reinstate them as such.
Where I live it's a wash with Archies, Alfies, Freddies, Bobbys and so on all the 'ee' sounding nickname boys names.

happy your anagram becomes shits-ne-happy. Poor you Sad

IMO yes, it's naff just like Bennifer or Brangelina

Indeed! I wonder if they had called him Jimmy if people would be scrambling to brand that as 'posh' as well!

The DM is reporting William or Charles still haven't met Archie.
Sad

Not difficult to work it out given he’s just finishing up a trip in Germany

I think a lot of pregnant women who were thinking of using Archie will shy away from the name now unless they are rabid royalists
