😂 some people make me laugh. It's a lovely name - go for it! And for the record it's pronounced exactly how it's spelt...

LilQueenie · 04/05/2019 17:05

I love and know a child with the name.

RosaWaiting · 04/05/2019 17:07

"Culturally appropriative."

has the OP stated her culture?

TheRoadBeneathMyFeet · 04/05/2019 17:10

I teach a Bodie and think it’s a lovely name. As a PP said, children are a lot more accepting and there’s not a lot of name teasing going on anymore.

It's a great name!
I went to school with a Bodhi many moons ago, he was a lovely guy

Ohyesiam · 04/05/2019 17:17

Try hard and dreadful.

DialANumber · 04/05/2019 17:19

It's not for me but I have called my children names others in MN describe as boring, bland and unimaginative maybe discount my opinion!

isntthatalwaystheway · 04/05/2019 17:22

Love it but it's so common now, Boden is similar but less popular?

Seraphimofthewilderness · 04/05/2019 17:28

Boden? 😁😁😁😁😁

MountainEagle · 04/05/2019 17:30

I’d assume the bearer of a Hindu name was Indian and would be very surprised to hear it on someone of different origin.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/05/2019 17:34

Sibling for Doyle?

RosaWaiting · 04/05/2019 17:34

Mountain that seems a shame really.

I have an Indian friend who was named for someone in Greek mythology because her mum was studying for PhD in that when she got pregnant with her.

I think it's lovely for names to go across cultures, just pointed out the poster who was assuming "appropriation" for ..well, several reasons.

RosaWaiting · 04/05/2019 17:35

also have my usual pondering - how far back must these origins go before the name is considered acceptable...mad really.

YetAnotherThing · 04/05/2019 17:36

Boden Hush. The ultimate MN style name.

Tattletale · 04/05/2019 17:36

I know a child call Bodhi and its pronounced bow-dee

PetraRabbit · 04/05/2019 23:13

It's ultra ultra trendy so will date in the same way names like Gavin and Jason did, and just like Noah and Jaxon will too. It's huge in America and being given to girls too (Bodie etc). I think it's one of those names that has a definite genuine heritage (Buddhist) but is being used by people who think it's "cool" but have never heard of the enlightenment story, which can be a bit cringey. I can't help but find it an odd choice if there's no reason behind it being used.

Still18atheart · 04/05/2019 23:15

It’s a bit out there for me.
Not sure how I’d pronounce

PetraRabbit · 04/05/2019 23:16

Rosa- I agree that names can be shared and enjoyed by anyone. But like your Indian friend using the Greek name, it's nice to have a real inspiration story behind it, not just that it was on the top 20 fastest rising names list....

Rosesaredead · 05/05/2019 07:05

It's not a Hindu name. It's not even really a Buddhist name. It's a Sanskrit word (which is being used MUCH more in UK/US/Australia than in India - DH is Indian and says he's never heard of this name or anyone called it. It isn't nice though - it's just in bad taste in my opinion - a bit try hard

MeanMrMustardSeed · 05/05/2019 07:13

It’s like you decided your children’s names in the mid nineties, aged 14, and haven’t updated them since!

RiddleyW · 05/05/2019 07:14

I don’t really understand this as a problem. Are you coming across 40 year old Jasons who are traumatised that their name is not currently on trend. Obviously some names are more of their time than others - I have a name that is really common in women my age and basically extinct in babies. It’s not upsetting i promise!

SleepingStandingUp · 05/05/2019 07:16

Bodhi... And for the record it's pronounced exactly how it's spelt...
So it's pronounced Body? That'd be a no.

What about Brody?

TrashPanda · 05/05/2019 07:18

Another family from school have just used it for their miniature poodle.

ourkidmolly · 05/05/2019 07:20

Very popular name in Oz for boys who are in their late teens now.
