So, here it is, the fourth(!!!) Guessing Game baby names thread. Shock

All credit to @scotstar for creating the game, back in March 2018. Can't believe how far we've come!

Previous threads here:

2: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/3207745-Guessing-game-II

3: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/3262724-Guessing-game-III?pg=1â„´=

The game is simple. Guess the name the poster is describing, then it's your turn! Make the clues as fiendish as you like. Grin

All are welcome to join in! @FintyTin, @Ladywillpower, @LadyGAgain and @DuggeeHugs, come join! (Plus others I've forgotten)

Right, these are all the names we've described so far...

And since @Ladywillpower correctly guessed @FintyTin's last clue, this is @Ladywillpower**'s latest clue:

This old German name opened Pandora's box in 1929. Her royal connections meant that she waltzed off to one of the Channel Islands with the Doctor.

@Clettercletterthatsbetter has guessed Clara!

Melanie

finallychangedmyusername · 06/06/2020 08:47

Ah, Melina!

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 06/06/2020 08:52

But I can't link Melina to the Hyde Park clue!

OP posts:
Ellmau · 06/06/2020 20:10

NO and no.

Think of some water.

And I guess no one is an A S Byatt fan here...

finallychangedmyusername · 07/06/2020 09:22

Melusine

OP posts:
Ellmau · 07/06/2020 10:48

Yes!

Melusine was a legendary character who is an ancestress of the royal family via the counts of Anjou. She was a sorceress who turned into a snake or serpentine figure (serpentine is a brass band instrument and the name of the lake in Hyde Park.)

Mel means honey, lucy means light, one is a little ending.

The Melusine legend is important in A S Byatt’s fabulous novel Possession.

Excellent clues thanks @Ellmau and what a lovely name. Smile

I've never read Posession although it's been on my must-read list for a while now... I might have to download it!

I'll be back with a new name/clues shortly; will get thinking!

Here you go:

Paris offers her an acquaintance in high circles and a drive with her father.

An actress of this name's full name sounds semi-childish.

And another caterwauls.

OP posts:
Ellmau · 09/06/2020 00:32

Madeleine?

finallychangedmyusername · 10/06/2020 16:14

Not Madeleine sorry.

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 10/06/2020 16:23

The actress's full name also sounds semi-masculine.

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 12/06/2020 22:06

The one who caterwauls does so in a group, but surprisingly not with Barbie or Sindy.

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 13/06/2020 19:41

Gem

LadyGAgain · 13/06/2020 19:42

Or Jem

Ellmau · 14/06/2020 00:06

Nicole!

finallychangedmyusername · 14/06/2020 10:20

Yes, @Ellmau, Nicole!

The reference to Paris is two-fold: Paris Hilton is the socialite friend to Nicole Richie, and the Parisian drive with her father refers to the infamous "Papa?! Nicole!?" exchange in the 90s Renault Clio TV ad.

The actress is Nicole Kidman ('Kid-man' being half child, half adult).

The caterwauler ('feline singer') is Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls (dolls: Barbie/Sindy). Grin

OP posts:
Ellmau · 14/06/2020 10:27

It was the dolls that gave me the breakthrough.

Will think of a new name and clue later.

Ellmau · 14/06/2020 14:23

Sensible but not enough sense.

finallychangedmyusername · 14/06/2020 21:35

Elinor? Marianne?

OP posts:
Ellmau · 14/06/2020 22:49

Yes, Marianne. Far too easy obviously;)

finallychangedmyusername · 15/06/2020 17:08

A lucky guess on my part! Grin Here's another:

Whilst best associated with sea life, this guy is more avian, in a couple of ways. He was also a West Coast American boy in the 90s.

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 16/06/2020 14:43

The second sentence references a film.

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 19/06/2020 19:06

Any guesses? Smile Does anyone want another clue?

OP posts:
Ellmau · 19/06/2020 21:21

It's very hard, I haven't got a clue so far.

finallychangedmyusername · 19/06/2020 22:41

The West coast boy was amongst those having trouble sleeping.
