Currently reading a book on the Normans in Lombardy and Sicily, so when I came across some unusual 11th century names, I thought I'd share:

Boys: Atenulf, Archifrede, Arduin, Arnulf, Bohemund, Drogo, Gisulf, Humbert, Humphrey, Jocelin, Lothair, Manfred, Mauger, Norbert, Odo, Pandulf, Radulf, Rainulf, Serlo and Tancred.

Girls: Alberada, Cunegonde, Eudoxia, Fressenda, Gaitelgrima, Muriella, and Sichelgaita.

I could live with Humphrey.
Personally I prefer the Merlin, Tristan, Gawain, Isolde, Xanthe trajectories.

I have a little used name and hated it as as a child. Less so now. I think you also must consider their potential peer groups. Gawain and Xanthe are fine at Marlborough for example. Perhaps less so at the comp around the corner.

Manfred is a very popular German name for men aged 50 plus.

Manfred von Richthofen comes to mind. My dad grew up in his town (just outside Wroclaw, Poland which was actually Germany until 1945. Wroclaw was called Breslau). Manfred von Richthofen was a national hero (and very good-looking to boot). His younger brother was Lothar, also a good name. Bolko was their brother's name. Bolko is a very Silesian name (the region my dad was from).
Sorry. You didn't want a history lesson.

I like these names like Hubert, Hugo, Aelred is another one. Randolf. Raymond. There's Theoderic the Great, as well.

I like Serlo on your list.

Aénor is a beautiful name for a girl. She was the mother of Eleonor of Aquitaine.
Other girls's names:
Laurette
Manon

So's Norbert, LavenderBlues.

I'd steer clear of Humbert. Humbert Humbert was the paedophile step-father in Nabokov's Lolita.
