Maxen / Macsen

My partner and I were coming round to the idea of Maximus but thought a little too strong for our taste.

Anybody have any thoughts on Maxen or Macsen please?

I think the pronunciation is pretty clear so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work outside of Wales. It’s refreshing compared to other Max names!

Just because a name isn't English doesn't mean it's made up . Be prepared for him being regularly call Mason instead if you're not in Wales.

How about Mack?

I like Macsen and know a few (live in Wales). All are called Macs/Max for short, rather than Mac. As MikeUniformMike said, it's pronounced Max-en, so shortening to Mac would sound very weird.

I love the name Macsen. I've only met one so it's not a common name even in Welsh speaking circles.

If you like Max though just go for that. There doesn't have to be a longer name to accompany it. Otherwise Maxwell is a softer option for a longer "Max" name. I'd personally avoid the Maxen spelling.

The en bit rhymes with pen. It doesn't rhyme with Jackson.

Maxian is another option

Yes but English people will say it to rhyme with Jaxon, when it doesn't.
Lots of welsh names have been ruined for me by becoming popular outside Wales.
For example, Dylan, Rhiannon, Rhian, Angharad, Bethan, Siân, Osian, Eira.
Great in a native tongue but not in their anglicised pronunciation.
Similarly, English or non-Welsh names can sound unattractive in a broad Welsh accent.

Is it more of a North Walian name ? I don't see it used in South Wales. The only one I know has parents from North Wales.

Maxence is quite common here in France
