Name for potential DS

Don't hold back, but try to be constructive please. If you don't like, can you explain exactly why?

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 22/04/2019 15:44

as in Lightyear?

Cheekyfeckery · 22/04/2019 15:44

It’s a name that says to me ‘we’re trying too hard’.

And Buzz Lightyear obviously.

But what do I know? I had Elvis floating around for a while for DS1.

terftastic1984 · 22/04/2019 15:45

Don’t be silly.

AlwaysFuckingTired94 · 22/04/2019 15:46

I was thinking more Buzz Aldrin. But I don't think lightyear is a bad association

Lost5stone · 22/04/2019 15:46

I agree its try hard

BloomsButtons · 22/04/2019 15:47

Buzz won't suit a grown man at all. I would wonder what it was short for? Buzz as a nickname might be doable, especially within the family but not as a stand alone name.

pallisers · 22/04/2019 15:47

awful and try hard. it is a nickname. Buzz Aldrin wasn't actually called Buzz.

missmouse101 · 22/04/2019 15:48

It's a noise not a name. And totally irritating at that.

HopeMatters · 22/04/2019 15:49

It's just kind of silly. It's more of a nickname, and those just tend to appear over time, you can't dictate them.

Please give your child an actual name!

ArnoldBee · 22/04/2019 15:49

It's my son's nickname. I do get odd looks when people think it's his actual name.

Aquamarine1029 · 22/04/2019 15:50

It's horrible because it's ridiculous. Unless, of course, you're a cartoon action hero or a bumble bee. As a name for a person it has no dignity or power.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/04/2019 15:51

Buzz Aldrin wasn’t named Buzz, he was called Edwin. Buzz was a nickname at first.

Buzz just makes me think of the smug one from Mcfly and his equally smug wife.

TildaTurnip · 22/04/2019 15:51

I think of Buzz from Home Alone and he was a total Arse (apart from a bit at the end). Then I think of Lightyear and as great as that film is, it lends itself to a lot of jokes.

Obviously I know who Aldrin is but he didn’t pop into my head until you mentioned it!

It’s a nickname. And as others have said, Buzz Aldrin’s Name wasn’t Buzz. It’s a name that’s trying to be different for the sake of being different. There’s a whole gauntlet of proper names out there. Pick one.

TooTrueToBeGood · 22/04/2019 15:56

The danger with giving a child an out there name is you risk setting them up for years of bullying and mickey taking. If a child at my school had been called Buzz I can pretty much guarantee he'd have become the boy who's dad was a vibrator.

grumpyyetgorgeous · 22/04/2019 15:57

If you really like the name how about choosing a more mainstream name that could conceivably have the nickname "Buzz" then your dc has options if they hate it?

JenniferJareau · 22/04/2019 15:57

Buzz is a nickname, his real name is Edwin.

TwitterQueen1 · 22/04/2019 16:01

He would never be called Buzz

Buzz cut = baldie, butch, skinny (skinhead)
Buzz Lightyear = ?
Buzz Aldrin = ?
Buzz = bumble, bee, baz

Give him a proper name!

Applesbananaspears · 22/04/2019 16:05

Buzz is just a stupid name. I am firmly against having longer names for the sake of it e.g Katie being Catherine or Evie being Evelyn or Alfie being Alfred as I don’t believe that it’s necessary but when it’s a bit of a joke name you do need to have something sensible to refer back to. I know a child called Rocky and another called Buddy. You just shouldn’t do it to your child

EmpressLesbianInChair · 22/04/2019 16:06

If you give him Buzz as a nickname - or a middle name if you really have to - at least he has a choice whether to use it.

insancerre · 22/04/2019 16:10

It might be cute for a tiny baby
It will be ridiculous for a grown adult and leave him open to bullying as a child
Why would you do that?
Buzz is not a name, it’s a noise that bees make

Give him a proper name, remember you are naming a person not your pet

TildaTurnip · 22/04/2019 16:19

Buzz is a noise. It would be similar to calling a child Miaow or Oink or Woof

PolarBearBubbles · 22/04/2019 16:23

I quite like it, OP.
I'm assuming everyone critical of it gives their kids the dullest, most awful names going- Thomas, George etc.
I'd rather my kid had something that allowed them to stand out (and didn't need their surname to identify them against all the others with the same name) than something totally unforgettable.
I have a very unusual name and it hasn't caused me any issues, I'm really glad I'm not a Sophie/emma/Jane.

NannyPear · 22/04/2019 16:27

I like it. But I follow Giovanna and Tom Fletcher on IG and maybe that has helped "normalise" it. I think with all the different names popping up these days the worry of what would suit a grown man or what would look professional etc isn't as much of an issue any more.
